“Love this business hotel”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

I've been coming here for 10 years now, and it was then called the Gladstone after the Liberal politician who was born in Liverpool in 1809. This hotel was a little run down for many years, and a lot of money has been spent on it transforming it into something of an Ocean Liner, with port holes and pictures of liners along the corridors. The hotel is located a short distance up the hill behind the railway station, very well located for people like myself who travel by rail on business and who need overnight stops. It's also on edge of the town centre and a walkable distance from the waterfront, though when I take my wife I stop more centrally for closer access to shops and restaurants. The price of a room has varied over the years, up and down, and is currently exceptionally good value at £50 for a room including breakfast. Normally a low price like this would make me suspicious, The rooms are of a good standard, and include a wide work desk. I prefer staying at the front of the hotel, as it can be a little noisy at night, overlooking the railway lines, if you like to open the window for fresh air. I feel very loyal to this hotel, and I will continue to use it.

Room Tip: Front of hotel quieter if like me you open the windows.

Stayed here on saturday night last and found check in very easy and efficient. The room on the 5th floor was clean and well presented. We had some reservations when booking about noise from the train station and general sleep quality from reading other reviews on here, but i have to say we did not experience any of these issues.
Breakfast on the whole was very good, but it is here that we found the only real negative of our stay. The self service system in place seems to encompass everything from tea/coffee,toast making to searching for cutlery and other services that are generally taken for granted at most hotels. However the choice and quality of food on offer was excellent.
The hotel is well positioned in the city for walking to all the main attractions and the taxi rank down the street is always well serviced.
The staff here make the hotel and especially the receptionist who was so helpful with our airline query when we were checking out.
Overall good value and enjoyed our stay

Room Tip: Front facing rooms on higher floors seem to eliminate noise problems mentioned in other reviews

Stayed for 1 night double room with breakfast for £50. Have paid double that for a inferior experience. Room compact but clean and lovely luxury cotton bedding! Bathroom great. Breakfast excellent. Really central for theatres, railway station (Lime St.) and attractions of Liverpool. Free car park. Brilliant!

Just returned from my 3rd visit to the Liner in the last 6 months.
Was allocated a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the train station, very noisy!
Also the mini bar was out of order so no chance of using that, bath was dirty, pubic hair and the contents of someones nose all crusty along the edge of the bath...yuck!
Lid of pedal bin broken along with the very temperamental flush on the toilet.
I did tell a member of the reception staff but to be fair she didn't seem too bothered, well not enough to move me to another room.
I love the location of this hotel, very close to Lime st station and nr to the nightlife etc,the breakfast is superb and until this stay i would have recommended it to anyone but now i'm not so sure.

Checked in reception staff extremely efficient as were all the hotel staff that we encountered. Our room was as clean as a whistle. Plenty of tea, coffee and biccies to have a drink. The bed was very comfortable with crisp white sheets and comfy pillows. Bathroom small but beautiful. Slept really well and our room overlooked the station just did not find this a problem atall. We were on the 6th floor and had lovely views over the city at night.
The restaurant was closed the day we checked in but we had a snack and a bottle of champagne and had room service which was lovely and well presented.
Breakfast was delicious loads of choice all hot food piping hot and constantly replenished by the catering staff and plenty of room between tables. Free car park also a bonus. Sorry we weren't staying longer

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floors have lovely views over the city at night.

We stayed at the Liner for two nights. Room was good size, comfortable bed, lots of extras, toiletries, coffee, tea, biscuits. It was a very cold weekend and room was lovely and warm. Very clean. Staff were very helpful and breakfast very good. Free car park.
Hotel is very central and once parked you do not need your car. Bar and restarant very good food. Great value! Great Hotel! Would stay again.

Room Tip: Book on the internet

Small room but so clean! Friendly staff, great location!

Best breakfast! Lots of choices and always fresh! Coffee and tea was also good, although the machine broke down for a bit one morning.

Very quiet and the best was extremely comfortable!
