We popped into this place as it was in the middle of Mathew Street and I was put off from the start. The place looks less than clean and the beer tasted awful. The regulars obviously knew it well, and I got the idea they resented outsiders.

This is my personal view: yours may well be different.

Great wee boozer, full of character and nostalgia. Staff were lovely and is slightly quieter and less manic than the other bars on Mathew Street, but can watch all the madness from the window. The enclosed room at the back where smoking is allowed, is adorned with all manner of strange and quirky Beatles/Liverpool/60's memorabilia. It wasn't till out 3rd visit during our 2 day stay that we noticed the table with the photo of the Beatles sitting at the side, with the same sign and wallpaper at top. First visit, there was a karaoke on. My friend and I went to the back room for the first time and took lots of photos whilst someone belted out Penny Arcade. Having read a couple of negative reviews about the place, I would say, if it was cleaned and spruced up, it would rip the soul out of the place, which is what makes it so great.

A busy pub, just down from the Cavern Club. Interesting memorablia on the walls and celings. Small and cosy.

Granted there is some nostalgia here for many because of the Beatles connection but this place is a dump! It was dirty and had the worn look and smell of a bar on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. if you feel compelled to visit have one drink, look at the pictures on the wall, and leave. That would be my advice.
