Owner description: Sudley House has been described as a hidden gem. Tucked away in leafy suburbs, Sudley is the only house of a Victorian merchant that still has its original pictures, including works by Millais, Turner and Rossetti, and with beautiful period furniture, carpets and wallpaper it doesn't feel like a regular gallery. There is also a childhood room, a small world room and a costume room, which often house temporary displays, and tearooms. Admission is free.

“Great legacy to the city!”

Loved the wonderful art collection! The guides were friendly and approachable with added Liverpool humour. A true hidden gem, worth making the effort to travel a little out of the city to see!

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Sudley House is slightly off the beaten track of tourist attractions in Liverpool, but well worth seeking out. It is the former home of the last of the Holt family, shipping owners, & full of magnificent art works. Miss Emma Holt lived surrounded by paintings from Turner, amongst others, in a house with rolling views down to the river. There is now an ingenious video tour, with virtual contributions from the staff, as well as from Miss Holt & her father. A very nice tea room too, & all free as it is part of Liverpool's museum service.

“Ideal for a coach trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

Came with 23 ladies on a coach trip. Welcomed at the door on arrival. Party split into two to be given informative talk on the house and its residents and the other group on the costumes that are on display. After looking round the exhibits in numerous room enjoyed a delicious lunch including amazing cakes !!. Special mention must go to Alyson and Simon who gave the talks and Thetis with her assistant in the cafe. An ideal venue for a visit for a group or singly. Look forward returning in the future.
