Ferries run every hour, with two stops so you can get off and explore, trip takes 50 minutes with commentary. Makes you giggle when they blast out 'Ferry cross the Mersey' Cost £8.00 for an adult ticket. Is a good way of learning some of the history of Liverpool and Birkenhead. I just wanted to do it to say I had done it. There is a cafe on board if you want a drink. Well worth the money....

“Iconic Ferry Across the Mersea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

Wanted to do this trip for years, we included in our first visit ever to Liverpool and thoroughly enjoyed it...even singing 'Ferry 'Cross the Mersea' as we returned!! The boat went right down one side and back the other...lots to see. The weather was fine but chilly...so wrap up if you go. WE could have got off during two stops the other side but did not have enough time to do that and get the last return ferry back.
There was an extensive commentary about everything we saw but this was difficult/impossible to hear most of the time...it would have been great to have printed transcript of this for those who wanted it.
Its a fascinating area...and was well worth the trip!!

“Well worth a visit.”

Took my Australian cousin on a 50 minute river cruise on the Mersey Ferry. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. The view of the Liverpool skyline is breathtaking on a clear day and the commentary is very informative even for a 'native' like me! Plus the little blast of Gerry and te Pacemakers singing 'Ferry 'Cross The Mersey' at the start and finish just adds something special to the experience :)

“Ho hum!”

I accomanied my brother and his wife on a couple of tourist days in Liverpool and had a great time as Liverpool is such a wonderful city with loads of things to see and do. Anyway, they were keen to do the 'ferry across the Mersey' trip. The prices were actually pretty good, and the ferry travelled down the Mersey, giving a commentary on the buildings and history of the places we passed, before it then turned around and stopped at two ports on the Birkenhead side (we could have disembarked had we wished), before returning to the ferry terminal beside the Liver Building. An efficient ferry operation that is reasonably priced and gave added value through their commentary, so perhaps my score is a bit mean but it wasn't my cup of tea.

A pleasant trip on a boat that I travelled on in the fifties. Good historic commentary. Good views of Liverpool waterfront.
