“In the shadow of the Metropolitan Cathedral”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

To be found right at the foot of the main stairs to the Cathedral, this cafe is a rightly popular stop for either lunch or tea and a cake. If you are in to eat, you will get plenty of choice, there are daily specials and a serve yourself sald bar, soup, sandwiches, paninis and cakes. All things to all men and women in fact. Veggies will find plenty to eat. The service is generally excellent, and in 20 visits, I only experienced one hiccough, not worth mentioning here!

“good food, great value, fast service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2011

This is the cafe for the Metropolitan Cathedral - it's at the bottom of the cathedral steps with easy access so lots of local people use it as well as cathedral visitors. It's self service and very cheap compared to other places nearby but the food is filling and wholesome. The salads are interesting and apparently change constantly with about ten to choose from at any time (all help-yourself). The homemade cakes look very tempting and the coffee was excellent. My colleague had a well filled chicken salad sandwich and I had a delicious ham and cheese panini with two coffees for just over £10.

The place is light and bright and very clean and the staff are young, friendly and fast.

“fantastic value, good home cooking, nice atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2010

Based in the Visitor Centre of the Metropolitan Cathedral this cafe is open 7 days a week from 10 am to 5pm. It is a big bright space with a fast self service counter. The coffee and teas are fairtrade and excellent quality. They do a small range of hot meals each day and also a range of panini, sandwiches, baked potatoes and a great range of salads. The menu changes everyday so there's always something new to try. They also have a lovely range of homemade cakes and the freshly baked scones are to die for! The young staff are all friendly and helpful. There are tables outside with a view of Hope Street and The Cathedral. It's at the bottom of the cathedral steps at the end of Hope Street. The main meals including the always available 'Piazza Scouse' are around £6-7 and helpings are generous and great value. The beer and wine is cheap too! It can get busy at lunch time but there's always somewhere to sit and they will take bookings. There's a 10% discount for takeaway food as well. Warmly recommended!
