The starters of cheese soufflé was poor, it had collapsed and was like a dish of melted cheese and the pork and black pudding pie starter was dry. We both chose the lamb dish (which was selected from no more than ten main courses) was very disappointing as the white bean and chickpea base left a very clawing taste in the mouth. We asked the waitress if it was a complete dish and we were told it was, however when the meal arrived and we started to eat realised it was lacking in balance and having expressed our view to the waiter we went to additional expense of ordering a side of vegetables which helped to balance the meal. Even at the point of paying we expressed our feelings to the waitress who admitted that our meal was the first time she had seen that dish. We feel really let down as this was our Valentines night celebration and this experience did not gladden the heart! At no point was any conciliatory offer made.

We went as a business group (25) and had a good evening. 3 different people played guitar and sang and no one seemed to mind. The menu was limited but they managed to get the food out so we were all eating pretty much together.

It gets harder to find consistently good food. Here it is. The twice baked soufflé was out of this world! The overall menu was really interesting and had variety. Service was very good and the chef made changes for us- no problem at all. Would definitely go again. And again.

We came here as a couple with the groupon deal. Great friendly, helpful staff. We had starters of cheese soufflé twice baked and was delicious! For mains we both had fish of hake and halibut both in beautiful rich butter based sauces. The fish was cooked beautifully and melted in the mouth. Had a large glass of wine with meal was great value for money. Stayed afterwards for some more drinks as the atmosphere was pleasant. Definitely would visit the wig and mitre again.

Visited this beautiful old pub on a Friday lunch time - almost empty. Lovely décor and wooden tables, floors etc, this place should be awash with atmosphere but it was as dead as a dodo. Rather smelly (a la fried food and old extractor fan style). Had a couple of pints of Lincolnshire beer (Hardy's I think) - very nice and well kept but the food - oh dear. We only wanted something light so looked at the sandwiches. Didn't want anything with non free range egg in so were pushed to find something. Eventually had bagels with salmon and pastrami/spot the cream cheese. £6.50 each! Came with a few leaves from a salad bag. Asked for some French dressing - staff member reluctantly asked the chef for some after I mentioned that tripadvisor will be interested to hear they had none. Very disappointing - and rest of menu didn't really inspire - a weird mix of posh but can't be bothered to source decent ingredients. Very different from how it used to be. Will not return unless something changes for the better, sadly.
