Description: The Hume Arms, in the heart of Torksey, has been restored to its former glory by Ever So Sensible Restaurants, under the Lincolnshire Pub & Kitchen brand, after the company took on the lease in March this year. Work undertaken at the venue on Main Street includes a complete refit of the interior, creating a warm and welcoming feel throughout the pub's warren of cosy rooms, as well as the landscaping of the extensive garden area.

“The Hume Arms, Torksey.”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

The Hume Arms, re-opened, minus the plastic flowers, is a gem. Beautiful flooring, comfortable chairs, gleaming tables, candles in beautiful wood recesses. A thoroughly decent glass of Shiraz. All the rooms have had sparse and highly tasteful makeovers. One problem - the bar staff seem to choose the music, and they turn up the tracks they like, the music got louder and louder and the music was an abrasive style. For this reason we will not be going regularly. Sort out the behaviour of the bar staff and the music and this venue could be the 'go to' place of choice for the whole of the Torksey area, and beyond!

“The Hume Arms, Climbing Back”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Once, long ago, before police had breathalizers and drinkers had liver worries, The Hume Arms was an extremely popular destination. Since then it has had several incarnations as successive owners tried, with varying degrees of success, to find a place for it in the local food and drink market. For some time it has been closed but has now re-opened with new management and staff. There are many more chimmney pots around it than there were in the rock and roll years but even so its immediate catchment area is small and it has to depend on customers travelling some distance or on passing trade. Good food at the right price has to be the key to unlocking a sound future for this charming old pub. If my experience a couple of lunchtimes ago is anything to go by they have made a really good start. The menu, of mostly traditional pub food with some more imaginative items, is reasonably priced at around £9 for a main course and the meals are nicely cooked and very well presented. There is an adequate selection of real ale and the pint of Otter that I had was in excellent condition. But the thing that transcended the quality of the food and drink was the attitude of the staff; they were very welcoming, attentive and well trained. The Hume Arms is on its way up again

“Welcome Back”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Re-opened - Looks good
Visited early evening. Sat in bar area - There is a large dining area that looked really good but as no one in decided to sit in bar area.
Staff were very friendly and quick with our drinks. (Full table service)
Good advice from waitress as to what to have.
It was only a quick visit - we were in and out within the hour - Just one drink and a main course but we were impressed enough to agree that we will be back for a full meal/evening.
Both our meals were excellent and we found the prices very reasonable.
Great to see this old favourite spring back to life.

“May need bedding in time”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

It's only just started opening its doors in earnest but alot work needs to be done to bring the standard up to an acceptable level. We were a good 15 minutes sat at the table before we were offered menu's to look at and at the same time they were delivered we were told we could not order for 10 minutes as the kitchen was overloaded. Even bread and Olives appeared to be a struggle. There appears to be a lot of staff in "headless chicken" mode with no apparent supervisor / manager to front the whole operation. We had very sloppy service and an incorrect bill at the end of it.
The wine list is particularly uninspiring. The food, when it arrives is quite good. But in between time we had to put up with waitresses spilling drinks and not offering to wipe their spills up.
This pub once had a wonderful reputation and I think when the management gets everyone pulling together it will return. But there is a lot of hard work to do before I would give it a good review.

“Good luck!!”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Just been for Sunday lunch, it was very nice. This pub has had at least 4 managers over the last 5 years. We have been pleasantly surprised by the current owner/management. The lunch was very nice the staff helpful without being overbearing. The atmosphere good and overall ambiance good. We have booked for next week for evening menu I will update after. So far so good wishing lots of luck to the current management we need our village pubs we will support you all the way.
