“Wonderful Restaurant - The Farmers at Welton”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

I recently organised a meal for our local Lions club at the Farmers at Welton on the recommendation of one of our members. From the moment I contacted them by email the experience was a total delight. Even though it was for a Friday evening ( A busy time for any establishment.) They tailored a special menu to our price range and needs - sorted out a seating plan for twenty four people and their communication was first class. On arrival we were welcomed warmly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was memorable and the service excellent. I would have no hesitation in telling anyone. Go to the Farmers. Great value. Even greater food and service. From Caistor Lions a big thank you.

“Great Saturday Lunch”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We visited The Farmers for a Birthday lunch. The food was lovely and the staff were attentive and helpful. One of our party is gluten intolerant, this was no problem and every effort was made to offer her a wide range of choices from the A La Carte menu. The presentation of the food was fantastic with some innovative little touches. We will certainly be visiting again!

“"Spot on" for a family celebration”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

We visited the Farmers on Sunday 15th Sept, our first visit since the new owners took over 2 years ago. We had heard good things so we decided to try it for mum's 82nd birthday celebration meal and were a party of 5 adults and 2 children. It is very very hard to find a restaurant that appeals to such a wide range of ages - 7 to 82 is some challenge to please everyone but we had a really enjoyable relaxed time. Tables were well spaced, background music at just the right level, service attentive but not over the top, comfortable chairs, nice table linen decorated for the birthday celebration with glitter and confetti decorations (nice touch), drinks not overpriced, quality cutlery and crockery, nice clean toilets, welcoming atmosphere and roaring fire in the grate. We did not have to wait very long for our food which was hot and really appealing in its presentation especially for our children. All the food on the menu could be served as a child portion - what a welcome diversion from the ubiquitous nuggets, fish fingers, bean and chip kind of menu!!! We had 4 slow cooked blades of beef - delicious, 2 duck breast - also delicious and a scampi and chips - all scored 10/10. For pudding we had 1 chocolate fondant - truly gorgeous, 3 bakewell tarts - only usurped by those from the Bakewell Pudding shop in Bakewell (and yes we are experts on those!) a lemon meringue pie - scrummy and 2 mini sugared donuts - didn't touch the side of the children's mouths!!! :) All in all we really enjoyed our meal and it was very good value for money. We will certainly be back soon. Thank you.

“Overpriced”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

We ate at The Farmers whilst having a weekend away. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we managed to reserve a table two hours prior to our arrival on a busy Saturday which was great.
Our accommodation for the weekend had a leaflet up in reception listing special offers at The Farmers, one of those offers being any two courses from the a la carte menu with a bottle of wine for £40 per couple. It was this that persuaded us to give The Farmers a try so you can imagine we were a little disappointed when we arrived there to find this offer is no longer on although I must stress it is of no fault of The Farmers that this is still displayed at our accommodation. When I asked the waitress about this she said it had been withdrawn as the restaurant was not getting bookings which, with an offer like that we found hard to believe.
The food itself we thought was average and as other people on here have mentioned, we found the portion sizes small compared to what was being charged. My broccoli and Stilton soup was well presented but I honestly couldn't taste the Stilton in it. I ordered rump steak for my main. The meat was nice and well cooked but I ordered a wild mushroom sauce to go with it expecting a chunky, creamy mushroom sauce. When it arrived it was very thin and watery, (my soup was thicker) and not really worth paying extra for.
This was by no means the worst meal or experience we have ever had but the main issue for us was value for money and we feel prices should be slightly reduced or portion sizes increased. We don't want food piled high and spilling off plates but we do like value for money.
