We booked for 3 of us to have the 'festive menu' at Christmas, and to our surprise we were asked to pay a deposit and to order our food ahead, which we did. The menu was quite limited, but that is to be expected. The food, however was extremely disappointing. I had ordered pate which came with 2 tiny slices of toasted 'brioche', and what was billed as 'roasted apple', but which was more like just 2 small slices of stale apple. There was no butter to put on my bread. 2 of us had ordered the turkey, which was described on the menu as 'hand-carved', but in reality each of us had 2 identical slices of very dry turkey. It was served with a very dry Yorkshire pudding, and the vegetables were hugely overcooked.
The meal in general had a very institutional feel to it, and was not a pleasant experience.
The atmosphere in the place was ok, and we might give it another try when we are ordering off the main menu.

We have been here many times in the past and thought standards were slipping.
But we were pleasantly surprised this time.
We visited during Sunday evening and found that it is now service at the table.
We found the service friendly and quick. Sat near a roaring fire on a cold evening was great as well.
We had a mixed shared starter which was excellent and our main courses were very good.
3 empty plates from us.
Food is reasonably priced but watch out for the wine prices. We will buy a bottle next time.
Very enjoyable evening with good food and service.
We will be back again.

Pooped in here for lunch.

The starter of beer battered mushrooms was a little disappointing as it arrived on a massive leaf that was in-edible, and only about 5 mushrooms!

The main courses of chicken with goats cheese and crushed potato, and a chicken, leek & ham pie were very ample. The pie was definitely the highlight, as it was full of lots of meat and was very flavoursome.

We rounded the meal off with the Sticky Dicky pudding, & the Giant Chocolate Eclair. Both were very nice & left us feeling absolutely stuffed !!!

We will definitely return again, & probably try another of the pies.

Rudest staff ever experience in any establishment visited ever. Overpriced beer, average food, smokers polluting the nice beer garden. I may return in a few years when hopefully the busy body rude, over confident head waitress has left and one of the cocky waiters has left. 3 Swan Holme experiences : 1. When my father asked where were the green beans that should be with his meal the reply was 'we dont have any' then the waiter stood next to the table. When asked why he stated 'im waiting for more complaints' 2. My friend asked 'Do you sell Hoegaarden' the short haired bust body behind the bar said 'do you see Hoegaarden?' 'no' 'then we dont sell it'. 3. Got asked to stand at 9pm as the table myself and a friend were drinking at was needed for people wanting to eat. Shame.

I haven't been to The Swan Holme in about five years but as we were in the area we decided to give it a go. The Swan Holme is part of The Vintage Inns group and so you expect to get chain pub menu and food. This was exactly the case on our visit.

The sign stated that we should wait to be seated. It took a little while for us to be noticed but when we were there was a warm and friendly greeting. Our waitress was very bubbly and made the night for us. The food was unfortunately very average on the night we visited (midweek), there wasn't anything especially wrong with the food it was just bland and far from exciting. Nothing I couldn't make at home (and in some cases better), and not as good as some of the other pub chains. The desserts were equally uninspiring. To their credit the chain is keen to look after those with additional dietary requirements and the staff are only too delighted to help if you ask.

Wednesday night is vintage pie night with six pies including veggie options on the menu. If you sign up to be a friend of the pub online, you get 20% off your first order. It isn't an expensive venue, but every little helps.
