We have just come back from a very lovely Birthday lunch at the Café. Four of us all had different meals and all four meals were excellent, to start with my Father had the soup of the day, cauliflower and stilton soup, it came with beautiful home made bread and was declared excellent. Next we had the beef stew with thyme dumpling and mash and oh my word it was succulent and very tender and very tasty, another of our party had the fish and chips and it looked so delicious we all had a piece (as it was very large and overwhelmed my guest :)) We all declared it the best fish and chips (homemade chips) that we had ever tasted for a long long time in the area of Lincoln City.

Now if you'll care to look at my other reviews you will see that when I dine out I expect nice food that has not been *pinged* in a microwave, which does tend to happen an awful lot and it shouldn't be happening at all! Come here and there will not (to my knowledge and taste buds) be a microwave in sight! Just beautiful fresh food. We will ALL be coming back now we've found this hidden little gem, but shush now and don't tell anyone else ;)

Excellent food, good service, lovely location. Just returned from a Sunday lunch here. We only had the main course and were quite complete. Perfect roast beef, hot horseradish, vegetables done to a "T". One of our party had the fish and chips ( choice of Cod or Haddock ) it was so big he couldn't eat it all. Highly recommended.

Good food but no where near enough and expensive for the few morsels we received. Despite having made a reservation we had to stand outside in the cold dark night ringing a bell and waiting for the door to be unlocked before we could enter, external toilets and no phone signal add to reasons I will not be eating here again

We are sorry to hear of your disappointing visit to our Saturday Night 7 tasting evening. SN7 is an extremely popular dining experience and we have customers who return week after week. We feel £25.95 represents excellent value for seven courses and the majority of our customers comment that the portion sizes are ample. More often people complain that there is too much food! For those with a larger appetite we do offer a supplementary cheese board.

Our toilets are unfortunately situated across a courtyard, this is because our restaurant is built in a converted Elizabethan barn and other farm buildings in a conservation area so we were very restricted as to what we could build and where. We appreciate this is not ideal, but it has never presented a massive problem to our regular customers who understand that’s its part of our quirky charm, along with accessing the restaurant via our award winning Farm Shop. The main entrance is kept locked out of normal shop hours and the necessary intercom system works well but we are sorry if you found the entry procedure an inconvenience.

Although the Doddington Estate is only 4.5 miles from the centre of Lincoln, due to our wonderful rural location, there is a very patchy mobile signal across the whole Estate. However, we are very happy for our customers to use the restaurant landline when asked. (Our broadband is pretty awful too which presents huge challenges on occasion!)

We find that our customers are generally understanding about the lay-out of the building because they love the ambience and the food, we are genuinely sorry that you weren't persuaded.

After reviewing so many I've got a feel for what's good and what's bad and this is definitely in the good category. We've been here many times and often eat in the restaurant; it is a much more comfortable environment and serves meals rather than snacks. The service is always great and the staff are very friendly.

You can always visit the country outfitters and India Jane as well as the food shop. All very, very good.

Had a treat with the 7 course taster menu here just before Christmas as a wedding present. It was fab. The food was extremely tasty & well presented. We weren't rushed either which was great as the 4 of us could chat away inbetween courses. Staff were excellent, polite & well informed about the dishes. The whole meal including a coffee took 3 hours so be prepared!
