“Amazing honeymoon stay”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Where to start... Arrived..easy to find. Parking right next door or hotel. We popped in and they gave us a ticket to display on our windscreen. The doorman took our bags out of our car so we didn't have to carry or wheel them from the parking to the hotel.check in was easy..we had to wait 10 mins for our room to be finished but it turned out that time was so they could put the champagne and 100 roses in the room.as it was our honeymoon.for £15 we could take our little dog with us. Suite was on 3rd floor.easy to access lift .you swipe yr room key to access yr floor.suite was spotless! Large tv in lounge and bedroom.beautiful towel swans on the bed.champagne in ice bucket.wonderful roses .which were sorted by the hotel. And a lovely card from the reception staff congratulating us on our marriage. A lovely touch! Bathroom amazing! A huge shower big enough for 2 and with the most amazing shower head. Bath lovely with handrail. You just slide into it. Wonderful. We used the cafe bar and sat out front of the hotel. Lovely staff and great food. We didn't use the bar or restaurant as we had dinner by room service. Great food.prices reasonable. Special mention to the security man from the Electric Bar. Who when he found out we were on our honeymoon went up in the lift to the bar on the 5th floor, brought the cocktail menu down. Gave us time to choose a cocktail each and then went back up to bar and personally brought our cocktails down to us on the terrace outside the front of the hotel. We didn't go to the bar cause it was very busy due to it being a Saturday. These cocktails were wonderful and the trouble he took to arrange them for us was exceptional. What a great guy.we had breakfast in the suite. That was also great. Cooked breakfast and croissant and pastries and freshly squeezed orange juice. All fabulous and at a good price for what you get. Almost too much food. Check out was easy and again the reception staff were polite and very friendly. Can't say anything bad about this hotel. Obviously it's not cheap to stay in the suite with room service etc but this was our honeymoon and for a special occasion it was amazing. Thank you so much all the staff at this hotel. You made our honeymoon. Almost forgot. Lovely warm cookie each on arrival. Yummy.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking marina. Suites are amazing and have balcony

We stayed at the Doubletree in Lincoln for our wedding anniversary weekend and booked it after reading the positive feedback on TripAdvisor. The hotel itself was spotless and staff superb as you would expect from a Hilton brand, but there were a few problems which spoiled the enjoyment of our stay. Firstly don't be seduced into booking a balcony room with visions of sipping cocktails overlooking the waterfront. We stayed in a King Deluxe room with balcony, which was at the rear of the property and the view from the balcony was a couple of 1960's high rise office buildings and the Europcar hire office. The balconies also don't have any furniture so you can either stand up, sit on the floor or drag the heavy desk chair out from your room. The rooms with balconies you see on the approach to the hotel overlooking the river are king suites and there are only 8 of them and these are below the bar.

The room itself was clean with a good size bathroom and separate shower, which was fine. Bed was comfy enough and we were grateful for air con with the warm temperatures outside. I was hoping to use the room safe to store my iPad in when we went out for dinner but this was broken, which I appreciate was probably an isolated problem, but should have been checked between guests. We decided to have a drink in the bar on the top floor before going out for dinner, which was very nice when it arrived, but a lot of locals use this bar and they appeared to get priority service over hotel guests. We waited around 10 mins before being served and it wasn't that busy at 7pm.

As it was our wedding anniversary we decided to have breakfast delivered to the room so we didn't have to battle the hordes at the breakfast bar, so we filled out the card and hung it outside the door prior to 2am the night before, as per the instructions. The next morning, we waited for our breakfast to arrive and waited and waited. After 25 mins I thought I would check they had actually collected the card and yes, you guessed right - it was still hanging on the door outside. I phoned reception to complain and they dealt with it promptly enough, but by then the appeal of breakfast in bed had worn off and we were ready to go when breakfast finally appeared.

It is a shame the attention to detail was lacking, as other than the points above we enjoyed our stay, but if I was visiting Lincoln again I would probably try a different hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the river go for the king suite, otherwise don't pay extra in hope of a vi...

Arrived very early before check in, didnt expect a room to be ready, just wanted to park the car (to make the most of the expensive parking charge). Obviously arriving at 11.30am we were able to park but our impression maybe less favourable if we couldnt get a space...silly such a big hotel with such a small car park. Hotel has arranged parking in office car park nearby but dont expect this to be any cheaper!. Reception staff very friendly and offered that we check in and just collect key at 3pm. Handed warm cookie, which nice although slightly odd. Arrived back to collect key at 3.15pm but the room was not ready, staff friendly and apologetic but felt this was not brilliant as they knew when we would be back. Room finally ready at 3.45, which seemed unreasonable as we had to sit in reception until it was ready. Room ok but lacked the touches you would expect from a better class hotel - such as water in room, only one shampoo and shower gel, and 2 tea bags! Had to sign a medical disclaimer to use fitness suite, but after seeing the range of equipment available, decided it wasnt worth getting gym kit dirty for. Breakfast ok, self service buffet style, ok nothing that special, had to ask for second tea and coffee which was brought but felt like we were asking for too much. Location very good, lots of restuarants closeby and city centre about 5 min walk. Would we stay again? Maybe, but probably try holiday inn next door... £10 per night cheaper, £5 car park and its a much bigger car park!

Room Tip: Try lower odd numbered room, we stayed in higher even numbered room and had view of office block nex...

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

I am sorry we failed to meet your expectation on this visit. Your comments have been noted and actioned and the management team have been working to improve these details to ensure we make every effort to get them right in the future.

The car parking is a well documented issue onsite and we only have 26 spaces, we do offer alternative parking in the city at discounted rates for hotel residents. The nearest car park to us has been closed by the council for refurbishment which does not help our cause but we do our best to advise and provide alternatives (the office next door does not offer us free parking) but we are glad of there support at weekends.

Thank you once again and I hope you will use us again.

Regards

Philip Walker

Very warm welcome with much appreciated added touches! Warm choccie cookies on arrival, bottled water delivered to room, and papers in morning! Spotless throughout , air conditioned room a godsend as we arrived on a very warm day! All you can eat English breakfast ( although slightly cold ) plus continental . Great position easy access to abundance of eating places if you choose not to dine in house! If I really must say anything negative it would be facility to park! Only 26 spaces for such a large establishment at a charge of £10 per day and nowhere locally to go otherwise.

Hotel was very modern and staff were really helpful!! Couldn't fault them. Clean too, im fussy and i couldnt moan!! Lol. Comfy bed, firm but comfy. Booked king suite. Only small issues. Only one shower gel/shampoo/cond in room not enough for two people, had to get in quick before my partner used it all lol. £10 car park charge seems excessive, only 25 places first come first serve!! No minibar!!, so take your own drinks!! Lovely marina location, a few nice pubs, mainly chain places like prezzo/askitalian etc. your in a newer part of town here. Wagamamas takes pride location spot overlooking marina!! Beautiful spot book though as it seems to get busy!! Quite a walk to old town from this hotel, twenty mins - if you do walk, there are some quite rough parts, student bars etc to walk past, bit like any Saturday in a main town. The square sail pub on the marina is a lloyds bar, so beaware it has clientele to match!! Leering guys and girls wearing not much, cheap drinks, shots and loud music. The electric bar at hotel is very nice and has balcony seating. There is a nice pub at the start of the stretch of the marina William 'something', nice outside and in. The reception staff at hotel are really helpful. Enjoyed sitting outside pub Magna Carta in old town. Askitalian on marina for dinner wasn't good, didn't have what we wanted on menu, brash overheated restaurant, aircon broken :( staff not good. I suggest try
and book if you want to eat around here as it gets busy on a nice day!! You could tell they just didn't want to be there, which is a shame due to the nice location of this restaurant. Inside the Cathederal was breath taking!! Even if your not into that kinda stuff it's worth having a peep the architecture is WOW!!

Great location, and fantastic staff but fell down on the added luxuries you expect from the Hilton. No bottled water in rooms, no shower gel / bath soak (just a bar of soap which surely is less cost effective), lighting was very poor in bathroom had to sit by very small window (and this was a King size room) to put my make up on, ironing board left the metal marks on my trousers due to the cover being so thin. We did forgive them for not having sky, had to watch the grand prix in a nearby pub. All little things I know but really disappointed, however the hotel did apologise and give 10% of room rate. Regular guests of the Hilton chain so expected better.

Really easy to find, not far from the train station. This hotel overlooks the Brayford marina with restaurants and bars in easy walking distance.
I found the hotel decor very tasteful, smart clean & modern, the bedrooms are comfy & well equipped & the staff are welcoming & attentive. What's not to like?!
