Visited here as part of a Groupon deal, so tremendous value. However for that special evening, to feel very exclusive I would heartily recommend Reform Restaurant at The Castle Hotel. We will certainly be returning in the future. The restaurant is not enormous and so feels nicely intimate, tastefully decorated in muted shades and the ambience added to by candles on the tables and soft lighting. It was full when we sat down - a testament no doubt to it's popularity and the standard of the food. Everything that came out appeared to be beautifully presented, artistic but not pretentious.
Waiting staff are impeccably trained, discreet yet suitably attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes. For starter I had the Assiette of Crab - a delicious trio of crab based delights all served in a lidded bamboo basket. My husband had the pigs cheeks with black pudding and potato croquette - again delicious. The main course has to be one of the best I have had the pleasure to eat. We both opted for the Turbot with Oxtail Rissole, steamed asparagus and watercress puree. The rissole was incredible! Made to look like a genuine oxtail, the centre was a cylinder of potato surrounded by incredibly moist, shredded oxtail surrounded by a wafer thin crispy crumbed shell - a dish in itself. Superb presentation throughout added to the enjoyment.
The house wine was reasonably priced and after dinner coffee the perfect way to end a wonderful dining experience. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
