“Wedding hotel.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

I stayed there after my wedding and loved it. I contacted the hotel telling them we were staying after the wedding and I think we got booked into one of the largest rooms. The room itself was everything I imagined it to be. Yes if the window was open you can hear revellers outside but with air-con just keep the window closed. I think the room door may have been a bit thin for my liking, would prefer a thicker door for security.

Room Tip: I can't offer any tips as I reckon we had a decent room :- )

We stayed at the Hotel Maiyango on the evening of our wedding. The room was beautiful with bespoke furniture. The bed was enormous and very comfortable and the bathroom was super clean with a shower head the size of a fryng pan. A fabulous hotel.

My husband and I chose Hotel Maiyango for our wedding reception venue and are so glad we did, as they made our day so special, they really took care of everything. I need to review the Hotel from 2 view points however, one as a wedding venue and one as a hotel, as we had different experiences for both.

My parents, head bridesmaid and I stayed the night before the wedding, and unfortunately we each had about 2/3 hours sleep. The reception is on the top floor, so as you go in off the street, you go into the lift and straight up to the reception area. This proved a negative in the early hours, as our rooms were on the 2nd floor directly below reception and could hear noisy guests into the early hours. This meant that we were tossing and turning all night, especially when the guests decided to eventually go back to their rooms, using the lift which was next to our rooms, and continued their conversation loudly. I went upstairs about 6.45am and spoke to the gentleman on reception who agreed sadly, that yes, they had had difficult guests that night and he apologised for the noise. As I work in a hotel, I understand about guests and internal noise, but the fact that I did have to mention it, meant that it was a real problem. We got given a bottle of Prosecco later in the day, as an apology, however, with the room rate being £95, a discount would have been more appreciated.

Having said that, the night of my wedding, having had all the hotel rooms taken by my family, we did not have the same problem, and breakfast the next morning was great and served at our leisure.

Now, from a wedding point of view, I cannot say a bad word against Helen and her team. who from the initial meeting to the check out on the Sunday morning, catered to every request, and were so helpful. On the Friday we went in to set up the room and it had already been done, and looked amazing, exactly as we wanted it. Melissa and Lauren spent ages ironing the chair bows and putting them on every seat, checking I was happy with everything throughout. Melissa continued to be a fantastic help from the Saturday morning having to re-arrange breakfast to the restaurant to moving seats around as we had a last minute guest change.

The wedding breakfast food was amazing and every guest commented on how good the food was and that they catered to guests dietary requirements so well. The toasts and speeches went off without a hitch and from the breakout in the afternoon to the setting up for the evening do was done efficiently and the room kept how we wanted it. The guests enjoyed relaxing in the reception area and on the balcony and the team were there to serve drinks whenever anyone needed one.

The evening food was light and casual, just what we needed after the 3 courses we'd had earlier, and the dessert canapes went down a treat!

Breakfast was great and everyone was able to check out quickly with the team helping with bags if it was needed. We certainly appreciated the team's help keeping some of our larger items so we could pick them up the next day. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hotel Maiyango for a wedding venue as they made our special day even more special with their attention to detail, but do bare in mind that it is a city hotel and I would recommend booking the whole hotel if you are having a wedding there.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room if staying on your own.

We stayed at the Maiyango for two nights over a weekend for a graduation. It is well situated in the centre of Leicester with discounted parking in the ncp opposite (£ 5.50 for 24 hours)
You enter the Hotel on the ground floor via lift to the reception is on the 3rd floor and the bedrooms on 1 & 2 The whole Hotel is furnished really nicely in a boutique style. We stayed in room 15 which is on an outside corner, massive room and bathroom lots of windows aircon, big flat screen tv ( you can borrow dvd's if you want free ) free wifi, huge comfortable bed.
Only downside if you are a light sleeper you may hear late night revellers returning from a night out down on the street below and the sound of the bollard going up and down to allow traders through in the morning.
The reception also has a bar and lounge area and a balcony terrace which is a great place for a night cap and watching the world go by. Breakfast is served on the 3rd floor, continental is included or you can upgrade to cooked. We ate at the hotel restaurant on one night which we can highly recommend, really good food and service.

Went to Maiyango as a one off treat for me and my Fiancé, and was blown away by the whole experience.

From the moment we walked through the door to the moment that we left there was not a single problem, or issue.

The room was clean, spacious and just stunning, the bed was gigantic and more importantly very comfortable.

Then the restaurant, well, out of this world, the cocktails and the food are a must try for anyone visiting Leicester, will be staying again for sure.

We stayed at Hotel Maiyango when going to a nearby awards ceremony and WOW- what a stay! We like to stay in independent boutique hotels and sought Maiyango out on this basis, and it has to be the best hotel we have stayed at. Stunning, modern decor, a HUGE comfy bed, attentive, really friendly staff and a great late bar that was perfect for a night cap after our evening out. Great location for nearby restaurants, but also amazing cocktails are served in the restaurant that is part of the hotel! Fantastic hotel, we can't wait for an excuse to come back!

The service was attentive, the staff were very right on always doing whatever it took to help. There was sometimes a lack of forethought , but that was always followed by a willingness and a freindly spirit.
The design of the rooms -we loved the minimalism, and the space. Lack of frilly curtains- fantastic. One of the few hotels with mod cons where you can turn off the blue light on the tv that looks you in the eye all through the night-top marks for that.
There were some things out of the hotels control.. the talking pedestrian crossing at 7am in the morning and the sounds from the restaurant below. The rain shower is lovely , but it ran out of hot water.
The area is noisy but the upside its good for the lanes and restaurants.

Room Tip: 15. big bed, big bathroom, not too exposed to the street, spacious and comfortable
