Stayed in this this wonderfully appointed cottage in the centre of the village of Groby.
A very cosy property perfectly located near to all local amenities, yet you still get a very private feel once inside the premises.
Great pub adjacent provides good food and refreshments.
Close to all major routes too.
Thank you for the experience, can't wait to return.
This was a perfect little cottage, great facilities, friendly helpful staff at the pub, couldn't fault it.
What a find! i am totally thrilled that we had the opportunity to stay in this beautiful cottage. I booked it for 1 night for my husbands birthday as we were in the area and thought it would be a nice change to a hotel, I only wished we could have stayed longer. The cottage is owned by the pub next door and we had the friendliest greeting from the manager and all the staff. We also ate here and had a really good meal so worth a visit. The cottage has everything you need and has been decorated beautifully. Thank you so much for our stay and we would defiantly return. :)
A fantastic cottage. Top notch specifications. A real Blend of old Thatched cottage with lovely modern amenities such as, Smart TV, great shower and fully equipped kitchen.
Brain was excellent, being linked with the Stamford Arms means you can relax in both the cottage and the Pub.
After working for 20 years in travel and tourism industry I tend to look for a home from home when going away, seen one hotel seen them all. I was initially attracted to this property as it looked quirky and very well presented. We had some slight hiccups at the booking stage however Brian the owner couldn't have been more helpfully, a sign of the hospitality we was to receive. We was greeted by the owners son who works at the famous Stamford Pub. The cottage was not a disappointment and the pictures do not do it justice. I have stayed in many self catering properties but none better equipped than the Blacksmith. Milk, juices, water, sweets, tea, coffee, I will have forgetten loads however all complementary. We also had fully stocked wine and beer in the fridge, obviously with the price of the cottage you must expect to leave payment for alcohol....but just everything thought of. It didn't finish there! Bathroom robs were available, high quality toiletries, well appointed dressing table, fabulous shower......and the bed!!! Soooooo comfortable. With all this you will be so tempted not to venture out, however we walk around the corner to the Stamford Pub and had a delightful evening. As mentioned previously the owners son works at the pub and we was welcomed with a warm smile. He told us about the history of the pub & cottage and really made us feel very welcomed. Tom was also very helpful when we requested he contacted owner of the cottage Brain to see if we could stay past check out time. We stayed for dinner and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Overall an amazing stay.....they have just got it so right! Worth every penny and we will stay again!

My partner booked this cottage for a one night surprise stay for my birthday. It is ousing character and looks fabulous from the outside and is just as good inside. There is off road parking and a rear established garden with table and chairs available should anyone want to BBQ or just sit and chat with a drink.
The downstairs is one room with a very well equipped kitchen and even has biscuits, tea and coffee, milk and condiments as well as bottles of wine and soft drinks (honesty chicken on the kitchen side if you want to have the drinks). Oven gloves, teatowel and washing up liquid and cloths also already there (have never had that before with any self caterring facility). There is a counter with 2 stools, washer/dryer and a dishwasher. The lounge area has a 2 seater settee, TV and electric fire (the fire is a living flame which looks like a wood burner). The floor is quarry tiles and there is a store cupboard near the door to hang coats, put wellies and contains a hoover and ironing board (useful for me because I always have creased clothes when I've packed!). The decor has been done to a high standard and there is a tasteful deer/country theme throughout the house (not chintzy floral) on all the soft furnishings.
The stairs lead off the room and are steep and windy and a tall person will need to bend a little to ensure no bumped heads. The bedroom is delightful and there are dressing gowns available in the wardrobe. The bed was very comfy and we both slept well. The bathroom leads off the bedroom and although the door is wide it is low and even I had to bend to enter it (I'm only 5"1) but it is very spacious once inside. It is fitted out in a very modern style and for once I was able to use the vanity mirror while my partner had a shower (usually impossible because of the mirror steaming up). Toiletries are provided and the bath towels are large, white and very good quality.
We ate at the pub which is all of 2 minutes walk away and the meal was good quality pub food which was very well done. We were lucky enough to stay when they had entertainment on ( a local tribute band with covers ranging from 60's to 90's) and the atmosphere was brilliant. Talking to some of the locals we heard that this is a pub that is regularly busy with the locals choosing to go there. We only saw one relatively small TV in the pub which ensures that people talk to each other creating an atmosphere sadly lacking in those establishments that have several large TV's .
The village has a newsagent, a general store, a Co-op, bank, fruit and veg shop and bakery amongst others, so self catering would be easy (all shops within walking distance of the cottage).
Overall this is a fabulous cottage to stay in and Brian couldn't do enough for you. The staff in the pub were friendly as were the locals and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place. Being able to stay for just one night is a great option for us as we have limited time due to work committments and we wish more places would offer this option, although I would have liked to stay longer and explore the surrounding area a little more.
