Really nice, clean hotel rooms and a great old pub feel. The furniture really needs updating. Good value food, especially breakfast. Breakfast waitress couldn't do enough for us. Very impressed. Pleasant and friendly staff, thanks to Sam and Lianne for making us feel welcome.

Ok the room was clean, no TV remote until we asked and had to wait for it. There's no soap, shower gel, shampoo etc in the rooms. The staff, if you could find any were not that polite. The few staff that were on duty seemed to carry out all the roles the hotel functions with. There was a power cut in the night which was not dealt with or explained to us the guests in an apologetic manner. This left us with no hot water in the morning, the staffs attitude was like 'well it's not our fault'. The internal phone system did not work properly we had to ring on our mobile externally to get any response! Will definitely not bother with this establishment again. The breakfast was ok but because of the shortages of staff very slow and the help yourselves section was not replenished.

Room Tip: Don't bother to go!

We had a so-called “superior” room which bore no relation to those shown on the hotel website, which gave a misleading impression of it. While adequate and clean there was nothing special about the room, except that it contained a single bed (which we did not need), as well as a double bed. The worst problem was the lack of lighting, which consisted of just three dim wall-mounted lamps. My side of the bed had no light at all, making reading virtually impossible. There was an additional bright light, bizarrely mounted in the ceiling of the entrance-way, rather than in the room itself. This light did not work anyway, and despite complaints it took three days for the hotel to fix it. The free wifi worked OK.

I had possibly naïvely, expected an “old English inn”, perhaps with a four-poster bed as implied by the website, but I should perhaps have realised that this was just a name adopted by a hotel chain apparently owned by a brewery. Most of the public space was a large bar/pub food feeding place. On the Friday this contained a huge crowd of noisy people and a loud “tribute” act. There were additional small rooms serving as a restaurant, but the only way to get there from the bedroom was to go through the bar, across the “stage” behind the performer.

The staff were pleasant and courteous enough. Dinner was OK. Breakfast was fine, although there was a surprising lack of muesli, and it was hard to get toast that was really toast, rather than just warmed bread.

The hotel is completely surrounded by car parking, with no green space. A sign pointing to “garden” led to a door which revealed a cupboard in which a member of staff was changing!

I would not say don’t stay there; just realise what kind of hotel you are going to and don’t trust the website.

this is a great place with some good food and staff to match. We had dinner here one night which was nice, food was served quick and well presented. We had breakfast twice and it was definitely what i needed to start my day. The lady who served breakfast was very pleasant and was a welcome sight in the morning with her smiles. My 3 year old daughter really liked her.

Having stayed here a few times before, we are more than a little bewildered at some of the really negative comments in the previous reviews. Yes, the decor is tired and this needs to be upgraded if the hotel wants to continue to compete in a very busy industry. However, we were given the bridal suite for our stay and cannot fault it. Lovely comfortable bed, nice breakfast and friendly staff. The manager was very helpful and professional at all times. We had our evening meal in the restaurant. My steak was slightly undercooked and was immediately returned to the kitchen to be frazzled (just how I like it). The rest of the meal was fab. For the price we paid and the reason we needed a stopover (business in Leicester the following day), we take this hotel over any similarly priced venue. Thank you for another great stay.

I had a brilliant time during my stay at the field head, when I checked in the man, I presuming the manager was lovely, all the staff, especially the girls had a sparkling smile on their faces, one thing I will say is that it does need modernising, but I could say that it does fit in with the hotel, I will be returning!

Stayed here whilst on business & used their function room for a meeting.
Beds really comfy, evening stay was lovely. For dinner I shared a table with local diners as it was so busy. Food was great & efficiently served.
Function room was good, opening out into bar or outside, so could get a breather.
A bottle fridge in the function room was a great idea.
