“Overrated”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Think this run down road needs a massive boost, it is being promoted as one of Leicester's cultural attactions nationally and internationally is a farce. With a few decent shops (and thats being nice); if it is meant to be a reincarnation of India then maybe heading to the inspirational slums.
Parking is rare and always give yourself half an hour to go up and down the one way streets and waiting at the traffic lights. Plus buggies and wheelchair's nightmare, if its not narow shopping aisle, its shops that have two doors to get in or raised shops (steps up and down).

“Needs impoving as it has a lot of potential (otherwise = Copper mile)”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

The term 'Gold mile' is a bit of a bragg and misused as Belgrave Road consists of a few jewellery shops that are overpriced and scattered around are a few saree shops. Big deal!

Unfortunately, the local taders have employed a PR company to who have made exaggerated claims about the whole shopping experience and to whip up this imaganative dream that the Leicester golden mile is like the Dubai gold souks. The website is littered with mistakes and incorre t claims

The reality is that most teaders do not open early, parking is difficult, local traders want cash only, do not refund. Whereby previously, the area had many good vegetarian cafes and restaurants, these are replaced by third rate fast food joints and betting shops. In addition, Belgrave Road is dead after 7pm, Restaurants empty and no decent live entertainment anywhere in sight. What visistors need to remember is that Belgrave rd is in fact home to a close knit community and the local facilities serve them well. The so called visitor attraction is on the opposite end of the scale abd the local council will need to spend a lot of dough to bring this up to the minimum standard!

“The best”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

This is the best part of the city where everyone gets together, either its diwali or holi. All the Indian festivals happens in or around this area only. I was actually in the news as well as in the papers for diwali opening ceremony. This is now called a Golden mile. We have a 2nd Gujrat outside India and very happy to live near Belgrave road. The best shopping outside India.

“crap.”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Not a place for the faint hearted or those with breathing problems or heart problems. Cocked nose to tail with traffic all day long being a mainroute into Leicester, traffic lights about every 50 metres, cars parked on the road and double lines slowing down traffic flow even further.the whole road is now looking very run down and the shopkeepers are always moaning about it and expect every one else to pay for improvements but not them. could be a very nice niche area but is living on past glories ,apart form a few out of the way shops selling genuine Indian goods not worth stopping for (nowhere to park anyway) Just stay away.
