“Good hotel and friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2012

This was the second time I've stayed at the Mill on the Soar as it's conveniently located for going diving at Stoney Cove. As always, they were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating to our groups needs.

Good-sized comfortable rooms with decent beds, good food in the restaurant at very reasonable prices. All-in-all perfect for our needs.

Our room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Good selection of tea, coffee and biscuits available. We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent, and very reasonably priced, as was breakfast the next morning. All the staff were very friendly. All round, we felt it was excellent value.

After reading a few petty reviews on this lovely pub I was slightly dubious about staying here. I could not have been worse mistaken and would really quesiton what people want and expect for £30.00 a night!!
Pulling into the pub the grounds were clean and well kept with ample parking (free). Check in was very warm and friendly.
The room that we stayed in was lovely, fresh smelling and had everything we needed, sofa, bed, tv, drink making facilities etc.
We went over the the pub itself for an evening meal and was again welcomed with a very friendly and warm atmosphere. The meals were very fairly priced and the food was lovely. We also got to sit next to the window and see the lit up working Mill. All the staff were very accomodating and did their upmost to make our stay enjoyable.

The pub is on an A road, which yes we could hear slightly but was not bad enough to hamper our sleep.

Overall, this was a lovely nights get away, with friendly staff and well worth the money, would definately recommend and stay here again : )

Room Tip: All rooms together so no bad rooms

We booked some rooms for the evening as we were visting a nearby restaurant with family.

From the beginning of the booking a few weeks ago, to checking in, it was Fawlty Towers. Mislaid information; confusion with who was booked into what room for what number of nights; lack of concern from the staff when sat at reception repeatedly ringing the bell...it goes on.

When one room was entered there was a strong and indeed vile stale smell of cigarettes in the bathroom. When the staff were approached they explained that you could smoke outside the rooms and it must have been the smoke coming in from the area outside the rooms!!!!

The rooms were spacious enough, clean and not bad value. The location is also good. But front of house really needs to get its act together.

THIS IS OUR SECOND REVIEW ON THIS PUB/HOTEL --just stayed here for a night for the second time.room was fine nice comfortable bed ,

Nice size tv on the wall ,nice deep bath, but yet again THE FOOD was a let down in the morning. We paid £15 for two breakfasts and they were disgusting. The bacon was swimming in black greasy slop, sausages were hard pre cooked and barely warm. poached egg was cold and snotty. grilled tomatoe was hard and mushrooms were shrivelled up and hard.3 TIMES now the food has let this place down for us and it is such a shame as everything else to do with this place is spot on GOOD LOCATION ,GREAT ROOMS FOR THE PRICE
we would still stay in the rooms again but will definately not eat here again.

Last time we were here we had pie mash and peas and that was not good tasting either , pie was over cooked ,mash was tastless and sloppy and peas cold. Why we just don't know as the first time we had it here it was amazing, that's why we came back!
3 out of 4 meals bad now!!!!!!!

This is a great value hotel with friendly staff and everything you could need. Surprisingly quiet as it is just off a main road.

I stayed at this hotel on 23 Sept. From the minute we checked in every need was attended to. Mel the supervisor was incredible and Jamie our waitress was bubbly and attentive. The room was fantastic for the price, have paid a lot lot more for a lot lot less. We had a meal in the bar which was fantastic value for money we both had steak, while this was a little over cooked it was not enough to complain about or ruin the meal. The rest of the meal was very good. The hotel was very clean and friendly and our room was very contemporary. There was a slight problem with the loo cistern taking forever to refill and making a bit of noise but again it was nothing to ruin the stay and I am just pointing it out. All in all if you are in the area and want a nice fantastic value for money hotel you could do a lot worse than put your selves in the hands of Mel and her staff. Incidentally every staff member seemed to make a point of smiling and welcoming you. Well done to the owners, you have great staff look after them

Room Tip: We had a first floor room no. 24 and it was very nice
