this weekend was really good, with a teddy bear hunt, miniature steam train activities, really good.
only downside is that not all areas are wheelchair accessible, but it is an old victorian building, so didn't expect anything else.
lovely grounds, the kids really enjoyed their visit

This place is well worth a visit. The steam engines are awesome. Horrible Leicester city Council are always trying to shut this lovely place down. Take your kids, enjoy yourselves, and feast on their awesome cakes at teatime. The best in the county and an unsung gem

A few interesting machines outside and some very interesting facts about sewage and sewage pumps (if you're interested in that kind of thing?)

This is my 2 1/2 year old's favourite place at the moment, and it's free! In fact, he gets a lot more out of this than the Space Centre, which is next door.

The Pumping Station used to transport all of Leicester's sewage, so there's a lot on the history of toilets and sewage (more interesting than it sounds!) Favourite with all the kids (including mine) seems to be the flushing toilet. You drop in a plastic turd (horribly realistic) and follow it down a clear pipe to the end, then collect it and start all over again! Apart from that, there are all sorts of buttons to push; lots of old toys; a tiny 'electric theatre' and a display on Leicester's old tram system. Evan also loves the Thomas train set. The only downside I would say, is that the gift shop is an open area in the middle of the museum. Of course, toddler logic says that if I can play with the other exhibits, I can get stuck in here as well. I have to keep dragging him away!

Look out for their regular 'special event' days, as they have the beam engines engines working and a minature railway, plus various other activities.

The cafe is only open on special event days, so we normally take a picnic. There is a nice grassy area outside, with picnic benches and more interesting things to see. Alternatively, you can use the Space Centre's cafe without paying to go in.

We only went as it was next door to the National Space Museum but this little museum is well worth a visit. Its not a large museam but there are lots of interesting things in and around. The Victirian Pump engine is fantastic. I only wish we could have seen it in steam.

Take the time when you are in the area to have a loook.
