Review of Ashby Castle

Ashby Castle

Though this castle is nothing but ruins, it does make you think how grand the castle must have been in earlier times and the way of life they must have lived.
The church which stands next to the castle is a must visit too .
The site is very well managed and is a good picnic spot .
Also to truly enjoy this place the Audio Tour is a must.

It's not expensive to get in and there are a number of lovely spots to have lunch. The recording is very informative, I learned lots.

As a 27 year old (23 when I last visited...) I feel a little bit embarrassed raving on about an audio tour, but it was excellent! The castle itself is decent, it's gone to ruin but you can still climb a tower and see the dungeons and so on. I also have fond memories of two 12-year-olds arguing over whether they wanted to pay the entry or not, we paid it for them, money well spent! I sound about 95 now.

Not a lot to say... nice for ruins but other than that not a lot to look at. The 'town' is pleasant enough but not lot to keep you busy for more than half a day.

I recently visited the castle with a few friends & we all enjoyed it. The castle & grounds are not too large & it is a ruin but you can still spend an hour or so walking round the ruins & grounds. At £4.60 its a cheap & fun way to spend an afternoon learning a bit about the local history. There were also some home made wines that you could sample for free in the gift shop which were very nice.
