Our son has just started in his 2nd year at Leicester University, and over the last year or so we've being trying out some of the Trip Advisor Curry house recommendations - all so far have been of a pretty good standard, but the food here was definitely the best we've had. Our experience so far had been that the "heat" of curries generally in Leicester is less than we're used to in London (or are we imagining that?), but at Shimla Pinks the chilli rating on the menu was pretty much what we expected. The presentation of the samosa's alone meant that we had to have some (and it was worth it) and all our mains (medium to high heat rating) were lovely. Service was pretty good seeing as it was a Saturday night, and there were a couple of large parties in by the time we got there at 8.30 (having rung about an hour previously to book). Our only slight gripe was that we were sat in the quieter area to the side of the restaurant, and right by the stairs to the toilets - we were given the choice though and maybe in hindsight/next time we'd choose to sit in the busier central area. This is walkable from both the station and where my son is living this year, so we will definitely be back!

To appreciate this place to its best gout need to order from the alacarte menu. The lamb sagwalla is one of the very best I ha e had this country anxious with all the spices and ten tires defined, the sign of freshly ground spices to order.

A really nice place to eat but you pay for it but if you want great quality you can taste don't accept ssecond best.

It was not a planned visit and as we had no reservation we were told to wait. This was not an issue but from that moment we were completly ignored. Other patrons that came in after us without reservations were offered drinks/menu whilst waiting. Also, they were all shown to a table before us. It was as if we were invisible.

We spoke to one of the waiters after 30 minutes and asked how much longer we had to wait. Advised that it would take about 5 to 10 minutes.

In the end we just walked out after waiting for a further 35 minutes. Plenty of empty tables but I guess we were just not welcome.

Never again....thank god for the much more welcoming place down the road were we ended up.

Visting Shimla pinks was great experience. We were greeted and served very well by gentle men called simon and boby. Food was fantastic and freshly prepared. Having visited number of Indian Restaurants in Leicester I can truly say shimla pinks is the best in terms of food, service, atmosphere.

Attended their lunch buffet on a week day. Times advertised until 2.30pm arrived 1.50pm 16th September Restaurant looks good but unfortunately that is its best aspect. I was greeted well and the buffet was laid out. Naan must be requested but only if you remember to request it. Its no displayed and customers are not informed to request it. I did find the main dishes of the buffet empty. To rectify they did cook and bring over some lamb but only after prompting. I found their chicken to be much tastier than their lamb rogan josh which was rather dry and tastless. I assume from cooking too quickly with lack of marination time. I also had to ask for the chicken to be refilled. What was a good touch is the waiter came to ask me if everything was ok perhaps sensing I was reviewing while eating. Other dishes on the buffet were fine. Overall an ok experience but food should be available. If a buffet has empty containers this can send a negative signal. Chefs seem indian or nepalese rather than Bangladeshi which is a plus point given this is an indian restaurant.

Perhaps would return perhaps not excited enough to return. Leicester has so many quality indian restaurants.
