“A great value way to spend an afternoon - perfect for a rainy day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2012

I've heard plenty of people ask what there is to do for the day in Leicester, and this is always on my list. It's within walking distance of the New Walk Museum as well and makes a nice tour of the city.

The museum itself is formed from two adjacent buildings with an interesting history in their own right. The ground floor has displays about Leicester's past including a mini recreated cinema, front room and children's toy exhibit. Upstairs focuses on military history and Leicester during the war. There's plenty to keep kids entertained with a small trench and wartime kitchen to look at. Finally on the way out of the museum there is whole cobbled street to explore and a look at the front room set up as it would have been in the 17th century.

Outside there is a walled garden - great for a picnic in warmer weather, with more information about the area's rich history.

This is a great value way to spend half a day in Leicester and is so close to the city centre it is easily coupled with a stroll around the shops, lunch or a trip to one of the other museums in the city.

“Great education for kids”

I've been here a couple of times with young children. They thorough enjoy the weapons on show. It makes plain the pain of war through the lives and exhibits of local people.
