“A Disaster!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

We went to the Cafe Rouge the other evening with high expectations - but it was a disater. OK, the chef had an accident and was absent - but the rest of the staff were runnibg about like headless chickens, with no one in apparent charge. The place was not very busy, yet it took a full thirty minutes for our starters to be served, and an hour and twenty minutes for the main course to appear, with a further delay for the sweet. Explanations were hard to come by, and the food was bland. To add to this, the bill was incorrect and had to be corrected, Things go wrong, I appreciate - but where was the leadership, and was there any contingency plan? The only redeeming feature of an unpleasant experience was that we had plenty of time to people-watch through the open windows.

Feels very french eating there, love the menu. I had the
Muscles, they were lovely and filling. Hubby enjoyed his
Steak too. Desserts were perfectly "petit&left you
Wanting more.

Our waiter was attentive and friendly. With the voucher
For a second course for £2.50 was excellent value for
Money. For 2 mains, a large glass of wine and large
Bottle of sparkling water £38.00

Would def go back x x x

“Annoying waiter”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

I have left feedback about this issue before. Foolishly we decided to give cafe rouge one more try. Safe to say it was the last one!

The waiter in question has it seems no ability to comprehend the appropriate length to engage customers in chat. Making far too many comments about food choices, calling desserts "naughties" might me funny to him but is just unprofessional.

He would loiter at our table way too long. Even clear signs we had said all we needed to were not picked up on. Again he totally ruined our experience. The food here is standard never better, sometimes worse.

The other staff are ok but we were not the only table unhappy with this annoying waiter. Surely the management know but just can't care.

“Much improved”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

I have really slated this branch in the past but they must have new staff because today's visit was really good. Very prompt friendly service and great food. Noticed manager being sweet to other customers to.

I find this chain overpriced but it is easy to find vouchers online.

“A french restaurant that can't even get a croque monsieur right”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2013

We've just had lunch and whilst my beef bourguignon was nice enough and what you would expect from a café, my girlfriends croque monsieur was terrible at first offering. The top looked as any other croque would, but inside it was dry with a tiny sprinkling of cheese under a folded over piece of poor quality ham that didn't even cover half the bread. The cheese covered less than half the ham! They made a fresh one and it was better inside with more cheese and ham, the cheese was not melted and the sandwich was still dry.

We took them up on the offer of a free drink, but it didn't really make up for the experience.

I'm not sure the chef has ever even heard of France.
