“A bit dreary and dull”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

The rooms are huge and have two good sized beds in each room. I stayed quite a few times over the summer and liked the option of soft and hard pillows - a nice touch. I also found all the staff helpful and friendly.

Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the rooms were a bit hit and miss, particularly on the 5th floor. This floor was in desperate need of a refurb so after a while I asked to stay on another floor. The rooms on the other floors were better but the decor was very drab and unimaginative.

Don`t be fooled by any of the menu choices. None lived upto expectations, except the rib-eye steak with bearnaise sauce. Most are served with an awful salad or occasionally one variety of vegetable.

Except for the staff, this one is a bit of a duffer!

Great property which had everything that I needed: Friendly staff (Lauren is a star!), clean rooms, good location and a parking. There is absolutely nothing negative that I could say about this hotel and I would recommend it blindly

We were attending a Christening in Leicester and had to be at a Church off the New Walk for 11am on a Saturday morning. Our hosts kindly offered us the choice of some Leicester hotels and we opted for the Holiday Inn due to its location. (a 10 minute walk to the church)

On arrival (rather late at 10pm due to a horrendous 4 hr journey) we were greeted by Reception in a truly friendly and helpful manner. Our booking couldn't be found at first due a spelling error but dealt with very efficiently. The young lady (Hayley I believe) was charming and her colleague (Nathan) was ever so helpful with printing us maps and google information on the Church we needed to be at the following day. Really friendly.

We took the lift up to the 8th floor where our hosts had reserved us interconnecting rooms. Yes the corridoors was a bit smelly and dingy but I'm not staying in the corridoor. The rooms were adequately spacious with two very comfortable double beds, a table with two chairs, tea and coffee making facilities and a very clean bathroom. The towelling and bedlinen were all of good quality which is something I always look for. All 4 beds were extremely comfortable and we liked the pillow choices.

We had a interesting view of the Jewry Wall lit up by spotlights...

Yes we could hear traffic noise but this was to be expected with the location.

The following morning the included breakfast was adequate. I had a few gripes being firstly that the bread for toasting was cheap and nasty. Secondly, that the servers were very lax in serving teas and coffees. We went down after 10 and it was quite quiet so I would have expected better service..... Finally, fried eggs undercooked and the sausages still had pink middles!!! Therefore large amounts of wasted food left on our plates!? Not brilliant.

By the time we returned to our rooms to change into our Christening clothes, they had already been cleaned and made up. Fab.

We returned to the hotel that evening and my boys enjoyed using the pool and steam room. They said it was clean and well run.

They also ate in the restaurant. They didn't rave about the food - said it was OK. Husband had ribs, eldest son had chicken pasta and youngest had the fish and chips. Bill came to over £50 with a few drinks.

The following morning the lifts were a tad frustrating. One is still out of order and it's mightily frustrating to wait in the corridoor for 5 minutes to finally get the lift to come up then to stop at all floors. A mild frustration.

Breakfast was better cooked on the Sunday morning. Only gripe being that both juices had run out and not restocked and you needed a sledgehammer to get through the baked bean crust! Servers still ultra slow in bringing teas and coffees.

Other than that, we had our papers delivered to the room both days, found reception staff really good and efficient and really just got a slightly better experience than we were expecting to have having read previous reviews. Liked the rooms.

Would I return? Maybe for a night as it is a really good central location and the car park opposite worked well for us as we have a huge 4x4 car and the spaces were very generous in size.

I think the hotel should commend their reception staff on the Friday night of our arrival - they were truly charming and helpful and friendly and just a pleasure to deal with.

Room Tip: I don't know which floor is classed as the executive floor but we were up on 8th floor and the r...

The only positive thing is the location, close to an area with many restaurants.
The room was not very clean and had a bad smell.
In the corridors there was a strong smell of fresh paint.
Only one elevator working, despite the number of rooms and the number of floors.

Room Tip: If only 1 elevator works, ask for a room on a low floor. Pay attention to smell in the room and eve...

I've stayed here before a few years back and remembered it was a good place to stay. It is still good, the staff are welcoming and helpful. The room I had was massive, a huge comfortable bed with pristine bedding. The only negative was that the fixures and fittings are a little tired. For some reason my room had little green stickers on all the electrical fittings too! There was no hot water early evening as the hotel had a problem with it but I only found out having frustratingly tried for 20 minutes to get the bath/shower to work. Dinner and breakfast was ok - not great just ok. A good night's sleep though and as I said all the staff I encountered were very helpful.

Me and my friends had booked a room to celebrate, and about 9 clock received a phone call to turn down the tv which we did not have on, also to talk quietly which we did, We then had a person from reception come up and say that we had to leave as we were too noisy and people were complaining, which we thought was a bit odd... but we heard other rooms being noisy !!, so as not to ruin the nightand argue we decided to book into the premier in which fortunately had a room available and was more accomodating
This hotel is a nice looking hotel and ideal location, but the customer service is terrible. Booking the holiday inn was a waste of time and money!! i would never recommend this hotel or ever stay in a holiday inn chain again!!

Room Tip: choose another hotel and pay the extra
