“Highly recommended hotel!”

I'm astonished at the negative reviews below! OK, it's not a five-star establishment, but I had a very pleasant stay. The owner is extremely nice, the room was fine (I booked and paid for a single and was given a twin), the bed comfortable, the shower hot and with great water pressure, the location perfect - extremely handy for the rail station and university, and very quiet, and the breakfast was great. OK, some things were a little tatty round the edges, but I still can't recommend the place highly enough for anyone who just wants a comfortable, no-fuss place to stay for a night or two. Great value for money!

If you like Swedish light wood furniture, and simply want to be left alone to do your own thing then this is not the place for you.

The style is definitely Victorian in nature, including lots of dark wood and "fussy" decoration. However, if you like that sort of thing, then there are loads of original features, including the mosaic tiled floor to the entrance hall.

The member of staff that greeted us was more than firendly and very helpful. However, it you're used to staff that barely open their mouths, then you're in for a shock. This lady could talk for England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland! If you're happy to engage in conversation then great - if not, you could find it intrusive.

That said, the loacation is very good, and a reasonable walk from the City centrre and main attractions. It has the huge advantage of free parking (limited space but usually sufficent), and a full English breakfast - which was very enjoyable.

Overall, this place is unashamedly old-fashioned. If you like modern - go somewhere else. If you want good value and old-fashioned features and service, then it will suit you just fine.

Room Tip: Free parking, good breakfast. Not for IKEA lovers.

Stayed for 2 nights broken headboard, broken draw front, no milk, black net curtains, tv didnt work, shower control stuck no internet. DIRTY! Please look at photos. This could be a fantastic place such a great shame as a great location and a beautiful building that desires better.

This place was truly appalling - I wish I'd seen this website before booking because I would have taken heed of the poor reviews.
My room was tiny and dusty. The mattress was uncomfortable and smelt slightly musty. The washbasin had hot water coming out of both taps. The TV remote control was missing the back and held together with tape. You could only change the channel once with the controller and then had to manually turn the TV off and on again to get a different channel!
The decoration was grotty. The carpet was stained. I was a woman travelling alone and didn't feel very safe - I barricaded the door at night because the lock looked dodgy.
The breakfast was gross. I understand now why people refer to a bad cup of tea as 'dishwater'! The cook / owner came into the dining room to chivvy people to 'eat up' and asked one German chap if he was 'just going to stare' at his food... Basil Fawlty would be ashamed of this place. Spend a little bit more and rest easy at night!

I actually found the reviews quite shocking for this place.

I go to a convention that is held just down the road from this B&B either every year or every other year. For 2006, 2007 and 2008 me and my friends have stayed here and loved it.

The breakfast in the morning has always been excellent, we get along well with the staff and while it is fairly old inside, it fits with the building, and none of us have ever had a problem with uncleanliness. I hadn't noticed mismatched cutlery, but I have seen that problem in places that charge double the amount.

I have also never seen call girls or anything dubious in the area, even walking around outside at 3am, just us girls! The main place to worry about is the park down the road behind the university, we've always been warned about that when attending the conventions.

When the convention returns, myself and my friends will be back there again! :)

Unfortunately this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It was dirty, dingy and dusty. The bathroom floor looked as if it had never been washed, carpets were the worst for wear and the plastic flowers were covered in dust. The whole place needs a refurbishment.
Crockery in the room did not match and was stained inside.
On a plus side the breakfast was reasonable and the young waitress friendly and efficient.

If you've always liked the look of the Bates Motel in Psycho then this is the place for you... Dirty, creepy, and in the heart of the red light district (complete with working girls outside the front door). If I had been staying here on my own, I would have turned on my heels and gone...anywhere! Even a soulless hotel like the Novotel was deeply appealing to me as we worked our way up the narrow, impossibly pendulous stairs complete with heavy luggage and NO assistance. The bathroom was grimy, the breakfast was questionable, and at 69 pounds for one night it wasn't exactly a bargain either. Finding our way there was an adventure in itself, and when I husband stopped the cat to look at the map he was propositioned by a pro! Needless to say, this awful place gave us a really unfortunate first impression of Leicester. Don't go there, especially if you are a woman travelling on your own, I really don't think it's all that safe.
