We were down for a friends wedding. We had all ages/children/disabled and found the hotel value for money and were treated fantastic and felt at home. Staff were great and very friendly. We have been back since

Having just returned from a weekend in not so sunny Blackpool, I feel obliged to report back on the most unpleasant hotel stay I have ever experienced!

The Orbiston Hotel is ideally situated for a visit to Blackpool, adjacent to the Winter Gardens & within a five minute stroll from the Tower & the promenade. Thats's where the good news ends....

Having climed the stairs to my 1st floor room overlooking Adelaide Street I was welcomed by some most unexpected "creature comforts". Within 30 seconds of entering my small, putrid smelling room, a flea decided to breakfast on my arm! Not a great start...........

I ventured tentatively into a small dark cupboard, no wait - it was the bathroom. The shower bracket was broken and the the decrepid shower head was dangling below a mould-encrusted shower hose. A quick test revealed no hot water, but I left it running just in case.....

The sash windows in my room had been left open in a bid to disguise the stale odour. Sadly, this could only be attempted by cunningly lodging an ashtray between the window & the frame. A real classy touch!

Whilst a bottle-green shag pile carpet is probably a common sight in many budget hotels, I felt the abundance of tea coloured stains did little to improve its aesthetic value. Meanwhile, after 15 minutes, still no sign of any hot water....

To round things off I decided to inspect the bed. Peeling back the covers, I was greeted by an intriguing array of brown stains - a not unsurprising encounter given all that had gone before!

My introduction to the Orbiston experience was completed by the cascade of water through a ceiling tile onto the aforementioned shag pile luxury flooring. It appeared that the hotel was unprepared for what was admitedly a heavy rain shower.

If it appears I'm being overly picky about the expected standards in a £40/ night establishment, I should add that my colleague in the adjoining room had to invest in a pair of pliers to operate his shower (but guess what - no hot water!) whilst another unfortunate traveller had the misfortune to discover two pairs of soiled ladies' knickers (size 6!) under his bed.......

Perhaps I am being too sensitive, afterall the hotel proudly displayed its Quality Assurance award from the Blackpool Tourist Board on the front door. Maybe it was no coincidence that the award had long since expired.......

Stayed at the Orbiston in January 2007.
Fantastic welcome from Mrs. Kelly - she is really what you think a landlady should be like.
Accommodation is basic, but comfortable and scrupulously clean.
Hotel could be doing with a bit of TLC, but by no means is it as bad as the other reviewer made out.
Dining room staff could be a bit happier, particularly the one with the long hair!
Food is also fantastic, breakfast is great and dinner very good (no choice, but everny night was traditional meat and veg).
I would definately recommend the hotel for all age groups.

A very unwelcoming hotel by the staff.
we were shown to our rooms, shocked by how small they were, you couldnt move around at all! Very basic, with a door that wouldnt lock.
The woman who served up breakfast was very off hand & miserable. we couldnt eat the breakfast as it looked so bad.
The hotel had a stale smell to it also.

we will never stay there again!
