“Friendly staff and very good service”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

We stayed for two nights as part of a group of under 15 footballers and their parents who were visiting Blackpool for a football tournament. The staff were very friendly and looked after the lads and their parents extremely well. The boys were able to use various electronic gaming devices and also play darts and pool. The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced and the food was good. Everyone had a really good time and this was helped by the positive approach of Charles and his staff. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly to families and visiting football teams!

We stayed in this hotel, which is right on the beach front, with my 8 year old son. It was in an ideal location for all the attractions and we could see the pleasure beach from our bedroom window. The staff were very accommodating and helpful when we asked for a late check in. They were friendly and approachable and answered all of our questions about the local area and what to do. The breakfast was a lovely selection of cereals, yoghurts and fruit, followed by a full english which could be tailor made to suit. My little boy was encouraged to make use of the hotel's games consoles, darts and pool table which he thoroughly enjoyed. It was also a lovely touch when the staff on reception offered him a bucket and spade for his visit to the beach, to save him having to buy one. In the evening the surrounding area was very quiet, as the hotel is situated away from the bustle of the usual blackpool stag and hen do's. However, the nightlife is only a short taxi ride away if required.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for families wishing to experience the attractions of Blackpool.
I would recommend this hotel

Stayed at The Colwyn Hotel for two nights at the end of April 2013. There was a large group of us who stayed there as our children were playing in a football tournament. The food was freshly cooked and tasted delicious! I am very fussy and picky, but there was lots of choice, and the staff were very helpful, often asking if everything was ok. Service was very efficent and the staff couldnt do enough for you. The children were entertained on an evening by having a pool table, dart board and a playstation available for them, this giving the adults time to enjoy themselves!!The location was brilliant as we were next to the Pleasure Beach and there was a tram stop straight across the street. Although the building presented as being a little old fashioned, the rooms were clean and comfortable. I was very pleasantly surprised and would definately return to this hotel again, we all had a great time!!

Stayed at the Colwyn recently with husband and friends. Charles, lovely chap, told us to take our cases to the rooms and he would have tea and biscuits ready for us in the lounge. Lovely start to an enjoyable few days. Food was excellent, rooms clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful, courteous and very friendly. No complaints whatsoever. Excellent value for money and we, and our friends, will certainly stay there again. Well done Colwyn!

The day I booked I recieved a phone call from Ruby as I had requested a walk in shower as I am slightly disabled, she just wanted to know I could manage the lip on the shower tray. I aprecciated this call very much! We had also booked for two nights in October half school term to take two of my granddaughters to see the lights so it was also a trip this time to make sure the hotel was suitable. Before we left Ruby showed me the room she had allocated for October to make sure I was happy with it. The girls will love it very spacious room with bunk beds and a double bed for us and also a sea view. The bed was very comfy and clean the bathrooms could do with a refurbishment but this is in hand and considering the credit crunch we are all going through it is taking a little longer than hoped, having said all that NOTHING was too much trouble for the staff very very helpful and a mind of information. The breakfast was more than adequate two thick back bacon rashers a sausage fresh tomato beans egg mushrooms as much toast or bread as you wanted and you could help yourself to fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt and three different juices. The hotel was very clean in all areas and also has a lift to all floors (which was also a must for me) The Colwyn also has a licensed bar so you can pop in for a drink either before you go out or when you come back in,it has a good stock of different drinks and I'm sure would accommodate everyones taste! I am really looking forward to going back to the Colwyn in October and I haven't said that about any other hotel I have stayed at in Blackpool!!!

Firstly, here's what I liked. It felt like being in a family - they called twice the evening we arrived to make sure we were en route - something other hotels could learn from. The waiting staff at breakfast were friendly and chatty and we were made to feel welcome. The view is pretty good - it's right on the coast and there's a tram stop right outside.

Now for the less good: It's tatty and the decor is dreary. It feels like it hasn't had a makeover since the 80s and everything feels chipped or faded. There was bluetac stick to the bathroom wall - a small thing but no one thought to remove it. The bathroom was so small it was almost a nuisance.
At breakfast, we often had to wait fifteen minute before coffee was arrived or a breakfast order was taken. Filter coffee was available unless you want decaf, in which case it's instant. Eggs aren't free range (If they were they would have boasted about it) so I stuck to cereals.

For what it offers - ultra basic sub Travelodge rooms and ultra basic cheap as chips-style food, I would have paid maximum £50 a night for a double room- 60 at a real push. Our bill for three days B&B at the Colwyn: £270

Room Tip: Come as a single person - much better value

Stayed in the Colwyn the first weekend of May as part of North Shields Juniors football team who were playing in a tournament close by. The staff, bar, food and location were all way above average and we all had a wonderful time. The only reason I havn't given an excellent rating is that the hotel was a little old fashioned and dated but to be honest if you are looking for something more up market you will pay an upmarket price! You get what you pay for and this stay was great value for money. All the boys must have been settled and comfortable in their beds as they went on to win the whole football tournament! Many thanks to Charles and his team for making our stay such a memorable one.
