Well.....where do I start?
When I arrived there was a loud confrontation happening with what I presumed to be guests and reception staff. The guests approached me and told me not to stay, the rooms were disgusting and all in all, it was terrible. I was shown to a seat, away from the desk and given a registration form to fill in. I have to say, after a long drive, the welcoming party was certainly not the best I have ever encountered!
This hotel advertises as "Disabled Friendly" and states "lift to all floors" To a certain extent, this is true; there IS a lift, but it did not function. Some other guests had got stuck in it, and it was supposed to have been "fixed", this did not happen, as I observed a group of elderly people arrive, one with a walking aid, and all with heavy cases, be shown where the stairs were! The hotel was on several levels, even the ground floor had steps to be negotiated, with no hand rails for assistance. Please do not go here if you have any mobility problems, as you will have no hope of accessing a shower. The one I was given, had a narrow door, up a step and had no grab or support rails.
Granted, there is a ramp, as well as steps up to the front door, but it is too narrow for a wheel chair and does not have a hand rail for those with walking difficulties. The paving is also very uneven, I fell into a squint , loose paving slab that was hidden by a puddle of water as it had been raining! Ok....someone did come from reception to help pick me up, but this needs to be sorted!
The room was shabby to say the least. The beds had seen better days, and as I opened a drawer to put some clothes in, the front fell off! I did not venture into the wardrobe! The floor neded hoovering, the curtains and duvet covers needed to be cleaned, the toilet needed a bottle of bleach, the walls needed painting, the light needed a lampshade, the furniture all needed screws to keep it together and to be stable and therefore safe at the very least! The ceiling tiles were stained with goodness knows what, and the whole place smelled!
However, the sheets were obviously from the laundry so were clean, as were the towels.
The breakfast was from 8am until 9am, so not much chance of a lie in...even on Sunday! On arrival in the dining room, all tables were set with a glass of already poured orange juice, so you had no idea of how long it had been sitting there for! We were asked if we wanted full breakfast, which I understood to be a choice of cereal, bacon, sausage, egg etc with toast and marmalade. There was no fruit on offer and all we got was a plate of bacon, egg etc.........no cereal! The breakfast plate was ok, it was hot, and we got fresh toast and tea, but no marmalde, only a selection of jam. The two staff in the dining room were pleasant, but I had the feeling they weren't enjoying being there.
i would advise people NOT to book into this hotel.
