“More good points than bad.”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

First time staying at the Viking as our usual haunt is the Claremont. I have to say that we were not disappointed.Good points - appears that certain parts of the hotel have been recently upgraded and to a very high standard. Residents lounge on first floor and sea view bar and lounge at ground level are both classy and stylish.Reception area has also undergone a refurbishment again this is nice, however they could have made this slightly larger in my opinion.Limited space for luggage and guests when checking in and out. Rooms- Again we were happy with the room we were given as requested a sea view which was very nice and large enough for us,the only criticism being, there was a maze of corridors to get to it and only one small lift which started on the first floor meaning we had to climb a flight of stairs to get to the lift.Overall pleased with room cleanliness and facilities. Food - The food was of a fairly good standard with a choice of 5 dishes for your evening meal,my one minor criticism here was that on our first evening having gone down to dinner around 7.15pm we had to wait nearly 50 mins to be served by the obviously over worked waiter.Breakfasts were excellent, self service cereals , fruit, fruit juice and delicious full cooked english..Being self service obviously there was no waiting around and the waiter was over at your table in minutes with your tea/coffee.Entertainment- Overall I was fairly pleased with the entertainment, as others have previously mentioned on the reviews Buddy Lee is brilliant comedian and entertainer, really does get the crowd going, however I,am also in agreement with one previous reviewer that they do need to seek out new talent. As I said at the start of my review our usual haunt is the claremont and due to this we have seen most of the acts several times as they go between the 3 choice hotels. Finally - Drink prices. I,m afraid this is the one area that lets this Hotel down very badly. At £3.40 for a pint of lager and £.2.75 for a small 25ml vodka and coke,in my opinion this was way to pricey. The pub at the back of the hotel charged £2.30 for the same pint of lager and only £1.65 for the same vodka.I know I should expect to pay more in the Hotel but as far as I,m concerned there is a reasonable amount you should charge without ripping people off.You.ll be glad to know this is end of my lengthy review, hope I,ve helped some people decide. The hotel is nice, worth staying at and despite some of the faults I,ve listed we did have a enjoyable weekend.

Room Tip: Best rooms are with a Sea View

We have just arrived home from a 2 night stay dinner, bed & breakfast for £188 per couple. Very good value and the food and service was excellent. When we arrived in the hotel the reception is lovely but the corridors really need a lick of paint. The rooms are clean but basic but didn't matter to us as we were out most of the 2 days. If any young ones are hoping to stay can I just say its not for young ones unless you want a very quiet hotel with lots of lovely pensioners. Overall we had a lovely time and will go back.

Some of our closest familes and friends have been banging on about the Viking to my wife and I for years now, so we joined them for a two night weekend stay, costing just over £100 each for two nights dinner, bed & breakfast. They were somewhat wary that it might not have lived up to their high praise but any concerns that they may have had were completely dispelled, my wife and I absolutely loved it, even better than they had suggested.
Incredible value for money. Do not be misled by the outside view, it is lovely inside, two really nice bar areas, restaurant food was great, the staff were all attentive, efficient and friendly.
The rooms are nicely decorated, very clean and although they may be on the small size, bear in mind how old the building is and remind yourself that it is merely somewhere to sleep and house your clothes .
As with most of the reviews here , the absolute gem of the Viking is Buddy Lee and the rest of the entertainment. He was joined on Friday night by Terry Cotta for a show lasting almost 3 hours. After about two hours , I almost wanted them to stop, as I was getting tired out by nonstop laughing, the pair of them were hilarious, not too much swearing or non pc stuff , really showed off their art by mainly feeding off the very appreciative audience and pocking fun as often as possible, all very near the knuckle but they both expert in not going too far .
The Saturday show was equally as good, with a different comic plus a very good girl singer, followed by a disco at the end of the show.
Anyone wanting a great laugh , this is absoulutely the place for you, can't wait to go back again !!!

We have just returned from a Sunday to Friday break at the Viking. We have been to this hotel quite a lot in the previous years but stopped staying here because it was getting run down and needed refurbishing .We were told that it had been refurbished recently so we thought we would give it another visit. I would like to congratulate the hotels management for the good job they have done. The whole hotel is a lot fresher and more inviting and the bedroom that we were given was decorated to a good standard. All the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and everyone was helpful. The entertainment in the talk of the coast however has not changed since my first visit years ago. The same comedians are doing the same routines and telling the same jokes its like being in a time warp Buddy Lee is a great entertainer and lots of guests come to the hotel just to see him so why not give him a break and bring some fresh comedians to work with him. He must be getting sick of doing the same thing night after night .I would recommend the hotel to everybody but the entertainment needs updating.

The hotel interior was very nice, the waiting staff were very friendly in particular Steven was very nice. On the down side we were made to relocate to the Clairmont hotel because two of the people in the group were 17 when we phoned up prior to booking the place we phoned said it was fine for the two 17 year olds to stay, the two 17 year olds felt that they were humiliated when members of staff were unwilling to listen and that everyone was aware of who we were.

The main advantage of this hotel is that it is adults only. You don't have other peoples kids or prams everywhere.

The reception area and downstairs bar have just been redecorated and look very nice. The bar area on the first floor is very nice and chilled out.

All of the staff are very pleasant and very helpful.

We had a sea view room and it was very clean with plenty of power in the shower. We did take our own towels as the ones the hotel provides are not fit for purpose.

we stayed half board and we found this to be the biggest downfall for the hotel.

The food looks cheap and nasty and tastes as it looks. There was plenty of couples that we spoke to who had stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and they agreed that it was the worst food they had encountered on their stay.

The entertainment is advertised as the best in Blackpool at the talk of the coast. Believe me it is very hit and miss. We stayed for four nights and three of those nights we walked out as it was that poor. But on the other evening it was very good.

All in all it is better than some of the hotels that we have stayed in, in Blackpool

Another fab weekend at the Viking. Lost count of the times we've visited. Had a room on the second floor, no noise, two great nights sleep after the great entertainment. Buddy Lee and the other artistes were brilliant. We were a party of 6 (three couples) and we all enjoyed every minute. Food was perfect, lots of choice, something for everyone. Can't understand the poor reviews, but then it's nearly impossible to please everyone. Yes it can be a bit of a rabbit warren finding some of the rooms but in the past this has given us a fair few giggles!! All the staff are very helpful and pleasant, not come across an unhelpful or miserable one yet. Can't wait for our next visit (hopefully one of the Christmas party nights, which are amazing)

Room Tip: 2nd floor was perfect, very quiet and not far from the dining room. When booking ask to be seated at...
