First time staying at the Viking as our usual haunt is the Claremont. I have to say that we were not disappointed.Good points - appears that certain parts of the hotel have been recently upgraded and to a very high standard. Residents lounge on first floor and sea view bar and lounge at ground level are both classy and stylish.Reception area has also undergone a refurbishment again this is nice, however they could have made this slightly larger in my opinion.Limited space for luggage and guests when checking in and out. Rooms- Again we were happy with the room we were given as requested a sea view which was very nice and large enough for us,the only criticism being, there was a maze of corridors to get to it and only one small lift which started on the first floor meaning we had to climb a flight of stairs to get to the lift.Overall pleased with room cleanliness and facilities. Food - The food was of a fairly good standard with a choice of 5 dishes for your evening meal,my one minor criticism here was that on our first evening having gone down to dinner around 7.15pm we had to wait nearly 50 mins to be served by the obviously over worked waiter.Breakfasts were excellent, self service cereals , fruit, fruit juice and delicious full cooked english..Being self service obviously there was no waiting around and the waiter was over at your table in minutes with your tea/coffee.Entertainment- Overall I was fairly pleased with the entertainment, as others have previously mentioned on the reviews Buddy Lee is brilliant comedian and entertainer, really does get the crowd going, however I,am also in agreement with one previous reviewer that they do need to seek out new talent. As I said at the start of my review our usual haunt is the claremont and due to this we have seen most of the acts several times as they go between the 3 choice hotels. Finally - Drink prices. I,m afraid this is the one area that lets this Hotel down very badly. At £3.40 for a pint of lager and £.2.75 for a small 25ml vodka and coke,in my opinion this was way to pricey. The pub at the back of the hotel charged £2.30 for the same pint of lager and only £1.65 for the same vodka.I know I should expect to pay more in the Hotel but as far as I,m concerned there is a reasonable amount you should charge without ripping people off.You.ll be glad to know this is end of my lengthy review, hope I,ve helped some people decide. The hotel is nice, worth staying at and despite some of the faults I,ve listed we did have a enjoyable weekend.
