Returned to this hotel in April and hadn't been for 4 years or so.
Firstly, the Viking Hotel is dated and grubby. Our room had a bathroom with no shower, had dirty grouting, and a worn out grubby bath. The filth in the sink overflow made me heave when I was brushing my teeth ( I saw the thick, black smelly gunge in overflow when I bent over the sink) the only decent part of the bathroom was that the towels were clean. Asked at reception where the shower was and was told I didn't request one when I booked. What century does this hotel exist in when a receptionist tells you to book a shower or to wash your hair with a plastic cup which is for use when cleaning your teeth.
Our room had clean bedding and that’s where it ends. The beds have not been moved for months maybe years – you can see the dirt under them when you enter the room as well as the edges of the room which have never seen a vacuum cleaner. The bed and pillows are very lumpy. One of the curtains was partly hung at the window due to missing hooks, and the linings were full of moth holes and window sill filthy. The ceiling was like a patchwork quilt with repairs.
I really cannot understand where these raving reviews for this hotel come from, the food was worse than school dinners, restaurant service extremely poor ( 2 hours to get a meal). The only saviour was the entertainment room, the entertainment was good, but don't expect to get the seat reception reserve for you, because on both evening WE HAD NO SEAT!!!!
Now the Manager, if that's what you can call him needs to go on a training course, he obviously does not like anyone complaining, we went to see him when we were leaving (he was not available at any other time) and his attitude stunk, he spoke to me as if I was a child, told me I was aggressive (which I wasn't - I was complaining) so would not listen and told me to write to him. I wish we hadn't paid before we left as I felt we'd been robbed. We had an awful weekend and would never step foot in this hovel again. you can get value for money in Blackpool, but not at Choice hotels.
Have stayed in the Claremont and the Viking many times over the last 20 years, and they were good value but not for 2013, Please save your money and go elsewhere

Just got back from The Viking we had a really good weekend. We normally stay in The Claremont but we thought we would have a change. The food was excellent, the staff in the restaurant
Were very nice. When we booked in we weren't told that you needed to book your table for the entertainment room so when we went in at night we had to sit it the side of the stage. The toilets weren't very clean and the men's were terrible and really smelly. But apart from that we really enjoyed ourselves. Buddy Lee was a brilliant compere. The entertainment was really good and the music played later suited all ages.

My husband and I plus, four members of our family and a friend went to the Viking in January of this year and last year plus we are going next January and we had a brilliant time. I don't know what the idiot slater was on about. We have been other times of the year as well and had excellent service, rooms clean, staff helpful and very friendly. I am a 60 year old lady that can use a computer, so I am writing my own review. The show they put on is great,ok some of the drinks are expensive but thats the way they are in Hotels. xx

We only booked for 1 night but wish we booked more, great value for money and great location would recommend to anyone, evening meal delicious breakfast varied and plentiful, the staff were helpful and polite.

Evening entertainment was good well put together and suited most tastes, the hotel seems to be having a refurb but you would never had known as the workmen were very tidy in their work you wouldn't know they were there, car paring was just on the corner of the hotel and most importantly FREE !!
Most enjoyable stay can't wait to return

I have just got home from the Viking after 7nights and having read the review posted by Slater2xx I felt compelled to write my own! Speaking as 46 year old man who is a frequent visitor to the Viking Hotel Blackpool and knows how to write a review I have to disagree with all that was said, apart from the room quality as I have not stayed in that room, the staff are really friendly and I have never had cause to complain! There is no problem with disease in the hotel, the reason for the signs is to warn people and the sanitisers are to stop the diseases entering the hotel! As for reporting the hotel for writing there own reviews and food hygiene, this is ridiculous and possibly slanderous! The bar prices are dearer than your average pubs but not extortionate and are actually cheaper than hotels in Manchester! If Choice hotels decide to take this further I would gladly act as a witness for them! I accept that people are entitled to their opinions and that Slater2xx was upset but I feel that their review went too far!

Again I would like to applaud The Viking Hotel and all it's staff on everything they do.
We have recently just returned home sadly from what I can only describe as another perfect stay.
The food again was exceptional, restaurant staff are brilliant and are always attentive and friendly, and Buddy Lee can only be described as a living legend :)
I love what you have done with the reception area. It all looks so modern, if you have any spare carpet, please send it my way ha-ha.
This is our 4th visit to the Viking and we will keep coming back as we are never disappointed. All of the staff work hard and are very friendly nothing is ever too much trouble. As mentioned above Buddy Lee is brilliant, the cabaret show is second to none.
See you all soon :D xxxxx

Room Tip: I paid the extra for a sea view, in this weather it was a wise choice :)
