“Viking Hotel Excellent”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Having stayed in the Viking Hotel on many occasions, I have always found the staff and rooms excellent with the food and entertainment first class. On reading the last review I cannot believe that any adult could write a review against this hotel making allegations about the food being pre-cooked and left under a heat lamp. The food is only self service on a hot food bar at breakfast times with waitress service for dinner. The staff are not overworked and the service to your table is exceptional, even your water is regularly topped up without you having to ask. You say that the cabaret was typical of Blackpool, if this is your opinion of Blackpool why go to this cabaret show. The entertainment is the best in Blackpool with Buddy Lee and his show. As for your comment about the hotel's drink prices, it is not unusual for hotel drink prices to be more expensive than the cheap pubs and bars in town, and the Viking's prices are relative to other similar hotels in the area and not particularly inflated. You mention you became suspicious when greeted in the room by the ECOLI outbreak notice, which you will find are displayed in all hotels as a warning to all visitors on holiday in the area and is not just the Viking. The hotel guests watching the cabaret on Saturday were of mixed ages with old and young enjoying the fun show with tears of joy and laughter. There wasn't a dry seat in the house! I hope the Viking take up your allegation accusing them of falsifying comments and your complaint to the Foods Standards Agency. This hotel is regularly full throughout the year with repeat and loyal customers, which is testament to the excellent service, food and entertainment it has on offer. The hotel is certainly not a dump and is regularly being improved/refurbished to maintain good standards. Are you sure you stayed at this hotel and not a Blackpool hotel which has 1020 bad reviews? I happily recommend the Viking Hotel as one of the best hotels to stay in Blackpool for an all round great stay. The hotel has been in Blackpool for years and due to its popularity it continues to still draw and maintain customers. If you are still unhappy there is a McDonalds up the road from the Viking which does a Happy Meal,

I cannot believe that any adult would expect another person to sleep three nights in the room my husband and i were allocated. Room gf2 stunk like a mens urinal and the carpet was dirty and dusty. Im not sure what was worse the smell of urine or sweaty feet. The bed springs had broke down the right hand side and the room wasent big enough for us to pass each other. Hot water came out of both hot and cold taps.
We complained to the reception and they sent a chap out with a can of air freshner! ( it dident work).
The food was half ok but precooked and left under a heat lamp. Staff were few and overworked. The cabaret downstairs was typical blackpool but they did try and to be fair the singers were good. However the coke was 2.60 for a flat coke or bottled cider 4.50. Prices were a complete rip off.
My mum and sister booked this break as a birthday treat. I should have been suspicious when i was greeted in the room by a sign warning me of e colli outbreak and the location of the sanitizers in the hotel for guests hands.
I have read various reviews on this site left for this hotel and im afraid that as the average age of the guests was 65-70. Although i dont wish to stereo type the elderly. I dont believe that 426 of them even know how to use a computer yet alone how to leave a review .
With this in mind i have contacted this site to complain about what seems to be the viking writting their own false reviews by setting up false email addresses.
I have also contacted the tourist board in relation to their two star award and the food standards agency in relation to their poor food hygene.
Im not a snob but i do have standards. My mum raised me to be clean and keep a clean house .
I hope the Viking feel proud of taking my mums savings and conning her out of such a large amount of money. Personally i think your crooks and hopefully one day the authorities or lack of public demand will shut your dump down.

Very pleasant surprise when entering the hotel to see a refurbished entrance and reception area to a very high standard. Another excellent weekend enjoyed here especially the entertainment, on Friday we were entertained by our own fellow scouser, Lenny Anderson, and on Saturday it was the turn of Carl schofield both nights the artists were exceptional together with buddy lee. Food is good and plentiful. Bedrooms could now do with a refurb. Will be going back in 2014.

Room Tip: Sea view is worth the extra

stayed 2/3 week July and decorating taking place, really? There is no better time of year to redecorate than July? Only tiny window in room and told no fans available to hire yet could buy for just £50 when corner shop selling for £25!
This is a naff hotel. You would be better going to a B&B round the corner. Better breakfast (i.e fresh cooked not sitting pre-cooked under heat lamps and make your own toast)
Don't pay over the odds to stay here, go round the corner, get just as good, if not better and enter for free into evening entertainment.

Another great trip to The Viking. I went with my elderly mother for a long weekend and once again the hotel did not disappoint. Easily accessible, great location, great selection and quality of food (the best bacon ever!) and fabulous evening entertainment in Talk of the Coast. The Viking does not take child bookings so gives it an adult atmosphere and allows the cabaret to go a bit close to the bone (hilarious!). The host Buddy Lee is extremely funny and quick witted and a joy to watch. A very professional and well rehearsed show including dancers. Great costumes and you can tell there's a lot of work and thought went in to show. Seaview rooms are well worth the extra money with great views over the promenade. Looking forward to returning later in the year with my husband.

Just on our way home after a 5 night stay with my elderly Mum Gloria, I have been coming to the Viking for around 15 years now and it really can't be beaten.
The self serve breakfast is delicious and hot, evening meals are To die for and self serve desserts!
But what makes this place stand out is The Talk Of The Coast Caberet with Buddy Lee, after your Meal on an evening no need to leave just take your reserved seat and watch a fabulous show. Buddy made my Mums holiday she absolutely adores him!
All the staff at this hotel are a Credit to choice hotels and the
fact a lot of the staff have been there since I started going 15 years ago speaks volumes.
See you very soon

Stayed here for my husbands 60th birthday 26/28 July. Lovely receptionist to start with. We booked a double sea view which we got but it was very small. Everything else made up for it. The food is faultless, so much choice for evening meal and breakfast to die for. Excellent entertainment at night in The talk of the coast. From Buddy Lee, dancing girls, very funny Terry cotta and amazing Oxygen. Can not fault it at all. We have been a few times now and always enjoyed it. Safe car parking just outside too. Looking forward to going back again. Oh and everyone staying there are lovely and friendly too. Big shout out to the guy in upstairs bar, he practically runs that bar on his own. Deffo recommend this hotel. And it helps it being adults only too.

Room Tip: We always pay for a sea view, worth the extra.
