“We Found A Little Italian Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

Blackpool is a gastronomic desert. Or so we thought until we almost by accident found Stefano's. We were visiting Blackpool for the end of the illuminations and spent the day seeing the sights, walking the piers and buying tat, that's what you do in Blackpool. We had a lovely fish and chips for lunch but come dinner we wanted a proper meal. We were looking for somewhere a bit more upmarket than a Weatherspoons or Pizza Hut but there thin on the ground in the town centre. We spotted a Bella Italia and decided we were tired of looking so went for it. There was a 30-40 minute wait for a table and you had to wait outside, it was pretty cold this weekend. Luckily we were pointed along the road and round the corner by one of the staff. This is when we discovered Stefano's.
It's a small inconspicuous place, No menu on the window but it was obvious that the people inside were enjoying the evening so we went in. The menu is pared down to the minimum just 3 starters and half a dozen mains and pasta dishes. There is also the specials board with another half dozen dishes. Even the wine list consists of house white or house red. Don't let this deter you though as each dish that we had was absolutely beautiful and the white wine was the perfect choice. I prefer to see a minimalist menu where everything is special than a menu of a hundred dishes all done mediocre. The atmosphere was relaxed and Stefano and his staff make you feel like a guest at a dinner party, very personal and such a pleasure from the usual corporate clones in the chain restaurants.
The food: we chose to have the antipasto platter to share between three. Prawns, Muscles, Mozzarella and Feta Cheese, Tomato, Mushroom, Zucchini, Aubergine and Foccacia with a balsamic dressing. I chose the Lobster Ravioli off the specials board, My wife had the seafood risotto and my daughter had the Gonocchi. All fantastic. We had no room left for desert unfortunately. All this with wine with an espresso for me and the bill was less than £55, considering the quality of food, excellent personal service and atmosphere I considered it a bargain. Next time we visit Blackpool we will definitely be back. An oasis in the desert of fried and fast food.

“What's the world coming to...a decent restaurant in Blackpool”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2012

Blackpool isn't exactly known for its restaurants - as a rule if it can't be fried its not on the menu. There are a few exceptions that prove this rule, all of which seem to be Italian. Stumbled across this recently opened cosy restaurant last Saturday in the afternoon, spoke to the owner and was offered a table that evening despite it being a busy one with live music.

Contemporary smart dining room, with plenty of space between tables. A range of varied choices from a short (~10 mains) menu, supported by a number of genuine looking specials (why is it that the specials boards in many restaurants seem to be written in paint, not chalk). A shared antipasti board, followed by lamb Henry & lobster ravioli were good choices and hit the spot. Not much choice on the wine front but fine all the same. Didn't fancy a dessert; not currently on the menu but I fancied cheese and the kitchen improvised with some Stilton - nice touch! Bill, including gins to kick things off with, bottle of wine and an extra glass of house, came to about £60 exc. service.

All in all, a really good dinner, made all the better with excellent live music (sax & singer) which didn't get in the way of conversation. I hope this restaurant does well; along with a few others Blackpool finally seems to be catering for a variety of tastes/markets.

“Quietly efficient”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

Went with two friends (four of us in total) on the evening of Saturday 13 October 2012. Small friendly-looking exterior in the pedestrian part of Blackpool. Outside was the usual frenetic Blackpool illuminations atmosphere, coupled with the occasional 'happy in drink' people. Once inside though, the restaurant is a quiet haven away from the havoc and mayhem that is weekend Blackpool during the lights. Gently Italian themed interior (well it would be wouldn't it? !!) Good selection of traditional Italian food with several specials also available. Owner Stefano on hand to meet and greet and also serve etc. Other staff, Dominic and Anna very friendly and very capable - wine supply kept topped-up !! Three courses, of which all were excellent, especially the home-made tiramisu !! (Apparently Dom's special, secret recipe !!!) Steady flow of customers showed this is a newly popular and up-and-coming venue. Overall, premises, food, ambience, decor and staff all first class. Will definitely be returning (even though we live in Preston) if only for the tiramisu !!!!!!! (and to sample the other starters and main courses !!)
Would certainly recommend without hesitation. Well done Stefano and staff.
