“Nice hotel, service and food, but way too hot!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Really welcoming check in, helpful staff throughout. Great kids club (Maz especially good), we had adjoining rooms which were great for our families. Breakfast and Dinner were buffet style with exception of main course which was brought by the waiter. Staff in dining room were pleasant, food was really good and lots of choice of starters and desserts. Sometimes a bit chaotic but was nice having the same table and waiter the whole trip. The hotel generally is old so it is worn looking in places (for example the basement/kids club), walls of the bedrooms and in particular the hotel corridors which were really old, worn and yellowing. The rooms were spotlessly clean, bathrooms airy and light and brand new, but the bedrooms/carpets etc were a bit old and worn, double bed was a very small fold out kind but fine for a couple of nights and for the price was great accommodation, had kettle, tea tray, hairdryer etc, lots of wardrobe space and dressing tables. We were at the back of the hotel but on the second floor so didn't suffer much from entertainment noise, although the 'views' of the brick wall and car park were not inviting at all! Lifts were slow and old and the hotel caters fantastically well for older clientele and we did find as a younger family outside of school holidays we were the youngest there, but everyone including guests were really pleasant and chatted to our kids. Free wifi was only available in certain parts of the ground floor which we found a little odd. Lots of 'regulars' so when we chose a table at the cabaret to watch our son in the kids club disco we had to fend off a few glares from others whose place we may have taken. The cabaret wasn't to our taste but I would say it's only a matter of taste, the entertainment team we saw worked really hard and were particularly great with the kids club. Our son was desperate to go back and didn't want to leave. Unfortunately our stay was spoiled somewhat by a drunk man walking into our front door and into our bedroom at 11pm, and when we reported it to reception there wasn't actually an apology, just a 'oh yes we're looking for him we know who he is', and this coupled with a card in all the rooms saying 'without prejudice' on the top and warning people that there had been break ins didn't really put us at ease with a young family. This is not really about the hotel however, it just rather spoiled our stay. Didn't use the swimming pool and spa but it looked nice from outside. Tram stop right outside which was convenient and great value (unfortunately about the only thing that was in Blackpool!). Generally the hotel was very good and the family all loved it. The only major downside was how hot the hotel was throughout. It is an old building and in the middle of a near on heat wave in July wasn't particularly pleasant in the evening in the dining rooms and the bedrooms were uncomfortably hot and stifling. Fans in all rooms but had to sleep with these on and windows open. Would however recommend this hotel - just unfortunately would not go back to Blackpool, some of the customer service at other places was just too awful.

Stayed two nights at the cliffs hotel with my sister Gemma and family.

We paided extra at the time of booking for a sea view room. All the rooms that we were allocated were very clean and spacious.

Love the new self service so much better to be able to help your self to starters and pudding. And also at breakfast. There was lots of choice and it was really good.

Entertainment was held every night with a comedian and a singer. Both nights the entertainment was very good especially the very funny Carl scoffield.

Will defiantly be returning soon.

we stayed on the 5-7-13 and my 3 year old daughter, wife and I were all looking forward to a nice weekend in blackpool.
on first impressions the hotel seemed ok, the car park is a definate no no but had been warned about. the rooms were clean and fine also.
we had a nice day and as per the 3 year olds schedule she was shattered by 7.30 pm so we headed off back. she was just getting of to sleep when the disco right underneath us kicked in. it was as loud as if we had our sterio on full blast. it was a nightmare. we were in room on top of it with no warning from booking agent or hotel that this would be extremely noisy. this didn't end until 12.45am and by this time we were all fed up and very tired.
make sure to check with staff what room you are in if you want any sleep before 12.45am
we did not stay any more nights. we went home very tired!

Room Tip: no good for young kids

I have reviewed the Cliffs previously. Since our last visit the Hotel has had a complete refurbishment of its Dining room facilities. What they have done is excellent. There is now a very modern and efficient buffet area, and extended dining areas. Breakfast is full buffet service with tea/coffee/toast served to tables by the waiter. Dinner is buffet starters/puddings with waiter service of main courses. The standard of food is excellent. The ground floor Cafe Bar has also been updated and extended.

We were always happy with The Cliffs, but the new facilities have made it even better. I would happily recommend the hotel for either families or couples.

self service food in the restaurant may not suit many, but I can say nothing bad about the experience. plentiful, beautifully presented and above all , well cooked and tasty. A Fine example of blackpool as it used to be. Superb entertainment, half price drinks and all for 38.00 a night.
Brilliant entertainment and it is such a pleasure too find welcoming, efficient and pleasant staff who were all impeccable. Well done to all the directors and managers. We will return.

Room Tip: higher floors at front are quieter if you want an early night
