“Very good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

Just back from a bus tour to the Chequers Plaza in Blackpool and was very suprised by the great standard of the hotel and friendly staff. Rooms where spotless, dining room was spotless, and all was well with the hotel. My only complaints where the buffet service meal. I would have prefered to have been served a meal, but understandibly this couldn't happen because the new staff didn't turn up for their new jobs and left the hotel short staffed. And not a complaint about the hotel, but the singer on the Thursday night was dreadful, and to say to a Scottish crowd, the only good thing about Scotland, is leaving it. Just didn't go down well before he even started to sing. Not one of the guests had a good word to say about him. And the full time he was singing he kept looking at the girl that was with him, and sang songs about love. You should sing to your audience and not your girlfriend. That's my only complaints. But i would certainly go back to the hotel again and reccomend it to anyone.

Brilliant 2 night stay. Very nice breakfast, good variety. We were lucky to get a sea view room but even if we hadn't I would still give this hotel 4\5.
Well located at the tram stop but a good walk to the town\pier\tower etc.
The staff are amongst the friendliest people I've met and that goes for every one of them
Thank you all, we'll be staying again.

Room Tip: If you're getting a sea view, ask for a corner room so you get a wider panoramic view

First time to Blackpool in years, nothing much changes, but this hotel was great, from check in to check out staff very friendly and helpfully. Room was very good for a single, had all amenities and was very clean, would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Stayed on 3rd floor , no problems.

I stayed here last week (24-28 June) as part of a coach party. When we pulled up outside the hotel, the first thing I saw were patches of plaster on the foyer wall, and my heart sank. Upon arrival we had to complete check in forms, there was one member of staff facilitating this and matching up the details of 53 people so this was a lengthy process. Part of the hotel is being refurbished and so in reception a piece of plastic tarpulin was covering the ongoing building work.

The rooms themselves were clean and pleasant enough although basic and the coat hangers were too big for the wardrobe meaning the doors didn't close properly.

The worst things about the hotel were the food and attitude of the staff. Breakfast was self service with the usual options of cereal, full English etc. You had to make your own toast and hot drinks from sachets of tea and coffee. other than on the last day there was no fresh milk for cereal other than the little uht pots. Dinner was marketed as 'self service buffet style', however in actual fact was a choice of 2 main courses which you served up yourself, or the smallest salad bar id ever seen. You couldn't mix and match the food despite it being called a buffet, on the first night I was told off for putting beetroot with my main course, and when I commented to the waitress this was a bit extreme, she responded 'Well that's just how they are here its not my fault'. The food was extremely cheap and nasty and generally inedible. There was no vegetarian option although halfway through the week they put a notice up saying if you were vegetarian to speak to the chef. the staff would begin clearing the table while you were still eating.

In the bar they run out of diet coke on the second night and bought big bottles, which were warm due to not being put in the fridge and was charged at £1.20 a glass.

Overall its only the room itself that's stopped me marking this hotel even lower. id never stay here again and certainly don't recommend it.

Dear Ayeshasalah,

First of all let me apologize for your unhappy stay with us Chequers Plaza. If possible I would like to address some of your issues and hopefully rectify these.

As new owners of the Chequers Plaza Hotel, we are making every step possible to make our guests have a great stay with us so that they will return. The hotel is 5 days from completion of 25 new bedrooms adding to our 48 rooms already in use. The standard of the hotel is set as a high priority to make facilities and accessibility easy for all. Unfortunately, at the time of your stay, we were in the early stages of renovations to these rooms, but this should have caused no inconvenience to any of our guests as the area of work was completely contained and separate from the the main section of the hotel. This will explain why the dust sheet in the main reception area was in place, to stop any guests from crossing into this area. Also the painting of the entrance area was also incomplete at the time as this area is being extended across to create a small sun lounge area, therefore it would have looked unfinished.

The food is served as self service buffet style and we offer 3 hot choices and a salad bar, on the dates that you stayed there were only a few dinners booked therefore the salad bar was only small to prevent waste. We actively encourage all our guests to let us know of any problems when they are actually staying so we can have the opportunity to rectify them immediately, this then prevents negative responses when you get home.

We are always looking for ways to improve our service, and without our guest feedback we would never be able to move forward, so I thank you for comments. I am sure if you returned to the hotel you would see a huge difference to when you last stayed.

Once again I apologize and hope this won't put you off staying with us again in the future.

just had four nights here with the family very nice hotel in the process of being refurbished.nice rooms and excellent food in the refurbished restaurant but, my only complaint with this is the price of drinks in the bar £6.00 for a double and cokes and chasers very expensive certainly not family orientated, we finished up buying drinks from the wine shop around the corner, would not use again for this reason.the cliffs hotel next door the drinks were £2.40 for a double must try that the next time
