“Would have been happier at a Novotel or Premier Inn”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2011

We traveled all around the UK with our two sons, ages 8 and 11 in the summer of 2011. I picked the Hilton because I thought it would be nice to have a little splurge in Blackpool and stay at a place with a pool, on the water. It was a fine hotel but really NOT a splurge. There was nothing about it that felt upscale except that it had a lot of rooms and the lobby was fancy. The rooms were pretty much the same as or slightly worse than rooms in a Premier Inn. It did have a pool, which we did make use of. Oh, and it cost a lot more, too. Overall, I think we would have been much happier at a Premier Inn (or, if we wanted a pool, a Novotel).

We got a family room which had a king bed, and a bunk bed. The bunk bed was around a corner, offering some privacy for the King, but it wasn't a separate room at all. The bed was as hard as a rock, but that was typical all around the UK, so I didn't mark off for that.

The hotel is on the north edge of Blackpool and you really have to take the trolly to get down to see the sights. The trolly doesn't run all that often and the stops are hard to find at times, so it was a bit of a pain but we managed it.

The hotel had no A/C and luckily for us our room did NOT face the ocean. You see, an ocean view is also an all-afternoon-sun view and that would mean our room would have been an oven.

The pool is fine - typical small hotel pool. They didn't allow splashing or jumping, though, which meant that it wasn't much fun for the kids. The seating for observing the pool is a bit odd - they have the pool walled off with a half height wall and parents have to sit at tables on the other side of the half wall. The effect is that if you're an American who likes to be by your kid's side and being physically available to them if they need you, you can't. You can't really get to them quickly if you need to, and they can't come to you when they need a quick towel to the face. So if you want the kids in your care, plan to swim.

The breakfast area was large and the food was all good. English breakfast options, plus fruit, cereal, muffins, and croissants (pretty much standard for England).

You had to pay to park, which was ridiculous, since at that end of Blackpool there was plenty of street parking available. The lot was also well posted with signs that said that valuables may not be safe - but that's probably Blackpool for you (a bit on the seedy side, folks).

Room Tip: Note: NO A/C and water view = hot sun in your room. There is a newer wing in the hotel - our room wa...

We booked as a family of four, having two rooms for two nights, each room at 80 each, so in total paid 320 pounds for the two nights. Totally not worth the money and it is a cheek calling it a Hilton. Premier inn would have been cheaper and nicer. Rooms tiny, beds hard and lumpy and give you a terrible nights sleep. Carpets worn, bathroom tired and old. The walls are sooooooo thin you can hear other people's conversations which isnt great when everyone comes back pissed at 1am at you're trying to sleep. I wouldnt bother going again. We did complain after the first njght saying we wanted to leave, but because we had booked through hotels.com we were told we couldnt get a refund so would still have to pay the 160pounds to stay there for the second night. Absolute joke of a hotel. Paris and her dad wouldnt stay here thats for sure!!!!

We went to the hilton blackpool and stayed in the family guest room plus, the room featured one enourmous double bed and 1 sofa bed for kids.

There was also tea and coffee making facilites altough we had to ask for another mug and some more teabags and milk, there was good quality Twinings tea and some herbal teas aswell such as camomile and berrys there was also a few small packets of shortbread which was a nice touch,

Also in the room there was a large screen television and Alarm clock, hairdryer tucked away in a drawer and also a ironing board, iron and trouser press.

In the bathroom there was a shower cap shampoo conditioner a brand new bar of soap and bottles of shower gel and of course towels and a shower, But alas no bathrobes as described.

Also we made use of the pool facilites which were brillant and family freindly and there was a sauna steam room, large changing rooms and a fitness suite

For dinner we had warm bread and butter at the start tea and cofee then to start leak and potato soup there was cold starters but we did not all try them, A carvery main and for dessert the kids had bread and butter pudding (delicious!) and cheesecake (which had eddible glitter!) And then cheese and crackers was optional and unlimited tea and coffee.

breakfast was serve yourself with some pastries and toast with hot food aswell also there was unlimited tea and coffee aswell.

Unfortunatley it wasnt perfect due to one side of the sofa bed being poorly made so there was a metal bar sticking up to the matress So I did not sleep verry well.

Will be returning! some time in the future

Also finaly car parking is free and a ticket must be obtained and validated before you depart!

We were pleased to see you enjoyed most of the hotel services and facilities we have to offer and overall your stay was good. Housekeeping would have been pleased to have exchanged the sofa bed for you if there was a problem with it, I am sorry you found this uncomfortable. These are checked over regularly by the maids but we do appreciate your feedback. Thank you for highlighting your concerns your feedback is important to us. We look forward to welcoming you back on a future occasion.

Ok, so we decided to stay here for the Bank Holiday. We only stayed the Sunday night as we only wanted one night.

The hotel didn't live up to the usual Hilton name. Checked in at 1500 and the queue was very long with only a couple of people on the check in desk. Yes it was BH weekend but surely more people should have been on to speed up the process.

The foyer area was all nice clean as were most of the main public areas.

After checking in we then went to our room (516) which was a Double plus with a sea view. What the plus was I'll never know.

The room had a very big comfy bed, TV tea & coffee making etc. The room was showing signs of wear & tear and the Walls were very bare.

The room was clean ish & lacking attention to detail as certain things hadn't been cleaned properly.

Our rate (£101) included breakfast which had plenty of choice and was busy.

I'd only say stay here if you get a good rate

Hotel bedrooms were immaculate with spotless and lovely furnishings and linens. The buffet breakfasts were extensive in choice and variety. The restaurant staff were more than helpful. The breakfast times were even extended to cater for the larger number of residents and probably a greater number of holidaying families rather than business travellers.

The rest of the staff were welcoming and professional but still found the time to greet you as you passed by with a few friendly words. Any requests or enquiries were dealt with promptly and efficiently. We chose the Hilton for a trip to visit family members because of it’s location, easy access to the road system, easy parking and the pool and leisure facilities. We had expected a fairly impersonal business hotel with the standard offerings of courtesy and detachment. What we received was a professional service which had adapted to the leisure traveller with a more personal approach towards families and couples. An excellent stay.

My wife decided it was time that we had a treat, so we booked for the A'la Carte restaurant at the Hilton......................
We were very much mis-led on the telephone into believing this was a fine dining experience..................Not so....................
To be brief, the Promenade restaurant is a up-market carvery with no A'la Carte dining what so ever.........Yes, you do have a choice of meals, but all served off a buffet table, this is not what I expected from what is supposed to be one of Blackpool's finest/premier hotels. The service was nothing short of two star, and certainly I would not recommend this restaurant to business people or tourists alike !!!
Very Very dissapointed..............

I was concerned to hear you did not enjoy your dining experience in the Promenade Restaurnat. Although we serve carvery menu daily with extensive choice of starters, main courses and desserts and there is also an a la carte menu to choose from however this does incur a slight supplement but is also very popular with our guests. I am sorry you were not advised of this. Thank you for your feedback this is most important to us.
