Having just spent 5 days at Norbreck Castle I'm afraid I cannot recommend it. When I first arrived I was allocated a double room on the ground floor with NO WINDOW!!! I kid you not. Worse than this, it was dirty and there were children and drunken fools running up and down the corridor until 2am. The next day I spoke to the lovely Emma on reception who I'm pleased to say allocated me a better room on the second floor. All of the reception staff (apart from one older lady) were very kind and helpful, as were the restaurant staff and the night porters. This hotel is let down massive under investment, inadequate time for good housekeeping and some of the undesirable guests it attracts. Downstairs is OK, but upstairs is dirty and smelly with rubbish, empty glasses etc littering the corridors. It must be an awful place to work, as sadly it is to stay.

I read quite a few reviews before booking and was a little put off by them but thought for the price we would give it ago and I am so pleased we did! We had two rooms both with sea views that were excellent and catered for disabled. Would defiantly stay again. Lovely breakfast and staff where helpful. Only gripe really would be the splash pool for the kids wasn't working and had to pay £2 each to swim which I wasn't aware of at booking.

Absolutely appalling. The rooms smelt stale the bath/shower was dirty. Elderly folk sat with coats on as the entertainment area was freezing. A terrible place the staff are no better when you complained they were not interested and shrugged.

A group of us stayed in February, on a deal for the North West Stages Rally. We did not pay a lot, but expected our room to be habitable. Sadly it was not and we spent the worst two nights there ever. The room we were allocated was 269 and was much smaller than expected- we had to open the door carefully not to bump into the bed. The laundry must be sited next door as we were kept awake till all hours with washing-machine-type noises. The heating kicked in at 5am -I know this because there was so much air in the pipes it banged continually for half an hour. Every time one of our neighbours flushed, it ran down the pipes in our room. The bath overflow gurgled a lot too. The carpet in the bar is worn to the backing and your feet stick to it. The chairs in the "restaurant" were covered in stains. The food was nondescript- better to eat elsewhere!
The official response to my complaints has been a letter from Britannia offering me a "reduced rate stay". Trust me folks, I would not stay here again if THEY paid ME!!Horrendous!

Room Tip: Book another hotel.
