Norbreck Castle Hotel belongs to the Britannia Group and gets mixed reviews. Mine is a positive one. I did not see anything that would put me off from staying here, and at £69 each for a 2 night National Holidays break, I just don't know how they do it! We were with a large party and all got rooms on the ground floor which had all had their bathrooms recently refurbished with full tiling and a big jacuzzi bath with good shower overhead. The bed was standard double and reasonably comfortable. The room and bedding was all very clean. We had a big radiator and the room was warm and the hot water in tap and shower was properly hot, contrary to what some reviewers have said. I could only get BBC1 & 2 and ITV1 on the old TV. There was no window, but we were only awake in there early morning and late afternoon/early evening when it is still dark in December, so we were not missing any view. The breakfasts and dinners were good, with plenty of choice self-service buffet style. There was a genuine 99p bar from 6 to 9pm which covered Carlsberg, Tetleys, all the usual spirits and mixers and a glass of indifferent house wine. Other better wines started at £17 which was too expensive. . There is a massive entertainment room where we enjoyed the show each evening. The staff were polite and helpful. There is a tram and a bus stop out front to go into the town centre and your pensioner bus pass works on both. It is a 10 minute ride.. There is a good sized pool and spa service which one of our party used and said the massage was very good. Our package included a trip to Liverpool which was very good.

Room Tip: Our rooms were numbered in the 40's on the ground floor not far from Reception. only short walk...

We stayed at The Norbreck Castle Hotel for one night (15.12.12), and one night was enough. First impressions were that it was shabby and dated, we were also greeted with bags of rubbish on the floor at the main entrance.

We booked through Booking.com, when we checked in we were told that we would have to wait 20 minutes for our key because ‘housekeeping’ hadn’t released the room. When we eventually got our key we made our way to our room, the hotel is a maze of corridors. To say we were disappointed with our room is an understatement, it was disgusting, Room 834. I’d like to know how this is a 3 star hotel. Obviously ‘housekeeping’ hadn’t checked the room. The room was small, shabby, cold, dirty, big dated furniture, no bedside table or bedside lamp, and no towels. I asked a hotel worker who was on the corridor for towels to be told that they provided towels for 2 hotels and would have to wait and they would be brought to our room, I then went to Reception asking for towels and they arranged for them to be sent to our room. When they came they smelt. The bathroom sink had a large crack in it. There was a large TV on the dressing table which overhanged creating a hazard when walking around the bed, and it was also very dusty. The bed was hard and uncomfy.

Breakfast was self service, and disgusting. We had a cooked breakfast which was swimming in grease, the toast and orange juice were OK though.

Overall our stay at this hotel wasn’t good at all, I spoke to Reception about the room but it seemed that the staff really don’t want to know. We only booked here because the Premier Inn on Yeadon Way was full. We will definitely never stay at this hotel again, ever.

Room Tip: Don't bother, find another hotel.

The food was terrible and the dining room was so packed you could hardly move safely with hot food. The room was clean but very dated. The bar service in the conservatory bar was slow and one barman was very sarcastic to me because I couldn't hear what he was saying! Won't be going back

I booked for my parents and ourselves for 5 night Turkey and tinsel break last September. That was before I read these reviews. Last week we left home for Blackpool and was quite concerned about what we had let ourselves in for. How wrong could we be. Yes the hotel is tired and in need of some updating in some areas. However, the staff and food make up for it. Our meals were hot, the plates were even hot. The food quality and choices were some of the best we have experienced, and we have traveled a lot. The staff couldnt be more helpful. Our room was one of the largest we have stayed in. We booked a twin with spa bath, and was very pleased with it. Our only complaint is that it was a long way from reception and other facilities, but in such a large hotel this is to be expected. The pool water temp was a bit disappointing at 28.5 degs but the hot tub was lovely. We would definitely go again. We paid £135 per person for 5 nights BBEM - so to be fair, value for money it was 10/10. Read these reviews by all means, but please see it for yourself. I was speaking to a lady yesterday who told me that after reading some of the comments on here she almost cancelled, but was very glad she hadnt. As for someone on here saying there is only 2 toilets on the ground floor, that is not true and just goes to show how people are commenting on here without knowing the facts. I am a wheelchair user and I found 2 wheelchair accessible toilets and at least 4 lots of ladies toilets and that was just the ground floor. The bar prices are not different for the locals. There is a happy hour between 3pm and 5pm where bar prices are on average £1 less.

Room Tip: Book a twin if you want a little more space than a double and if you have mobility problem make sure...

WENT TO BLACKPOOL FOR A CHEAP BREAK AND THIS HOTEL WAS CHEAP £20.00 A NIGHT FOR 2 B&B. THE ROOM WAS DIFFERENT.NOT SPOTLESS BY ANY MEANS.WE HAD AN EXTRA IN OUR ROOM BUNK BEDS .WE ORDERED A DOUBLE ROOM BUT HAD TO SQUIEEZE PAST BUNK BEDS TO GET TO WINDOW OR RIGHT HAND SIDE OF BED.Part of the deal was free entertainment. on sunday night a beatles tribute act which was very good and resident group of singers and dancers doing christmas singalong. Lovelly if you like that.
windows in our room did not close properly letting in a healthy storm force draught but curtains did block that. Would I stay again PROBABLY NOT

Room Tip: If you want a good room choose another hotel

I can honestly say that this has been THE worst hotel I have ever stayed at. It clearly makes enough sales revenue to keep it going but this hotel needs to be closed down and refurbished however, if the hotel group are making enough money because people keep going there then that's not going to happen. I felt like I had gone back in time! The breakfast was so awful we didn't bother to stay; we just packed up and left. Our room looked like it had at one time been bigger and the hotel had decided to put a partition wall down the middle, making it look out of proportion. Unclean, unwelcoming and out dated. Truly a "Life on Mars" nightmare I was glad to wake up from.

Room Tip: Don't go there, book into a B&B instead
