A little un-nerved by the late discovery of the comments on this page (the night before while confirming location) we had the pleasant surprise on arrival of a very warm welcome from Peter and Ana for whome nothing was too much trouble to make our stay a pleasant one. Our room was clean and comfy with a wonderful Sea View. the food was good, and it was very quiet apart from the occassional passing tram, but hey, its Blackpool (or rather Bispham, the quieter and we believe nicer part of Blackpool) which is renowned for its trams.
Yes, the Bar at the Regatta was not open, but is that a major deal?. People in that much need of a drink have the Norbreck Castle Hotel only 5 minutes walk away, with bar prices surprisingly reasonable for such an establishment. There is also a choice of Indian, Italian, Chinese and Traditional Restaurants 5 minutes walk the other way (We can particularly recommend the Indian Restaurant), and if you do not feel like - or have difficulty - walking, there is a bus stop right outside the front door, and a tram stop on the Fleetwood/Lytham Line within 50 yds. A clean beach is immediately across what can sometimes be a busy road, so keep a good hold on your kids. Access is then across an easily negotiable tramway crossing, and down a slope from the promenade which may be a little steep for the elderly, but on a sloped path most of the way rather than steps, so suitable for chairs.
We think Peter and Ana (who at the time we visited, had been in the Hotel only 6 months) have inherited some bad press either as a result of their predecessors, or general "sour grapes" from some previous visitors who may have been expecting a "5 Star Luxury Hotel" standard for B & B prices. No signs of the previously stated "Devil Worship" pictures may I add which if they actually existed departed with the previous proprietor!!!
We also believe that the current Proprietor is a guy that will continue to develop the hotel given time to settle in. He has a wealth of experience in this area. I know, people's tastes are different, as are their standards, but if you want room service, pay the price and go to a major Hotel!!!. If you want the warm and friendly Traditional Image of a Blackpool B & B. then the Regatta will suit you by providing a clean warm accomodation and bed for the night with a good breakfast the following morning.
Working as a Contract Engineer in various parts of the country, and using B & B on a regular basis, I personally found that the standard was above that I normally expect for the price I paid, and would have no hesitation in stayng there again next year when my family and I attend the next International Flight Sim Convention at the Norbreck. Looking forward to seeing you both then Peter and Ana. Thank you for your hospitality. during our stay.
