we have just stayed two nights in the howard hotel, had nothing to complain about.
our room was at the back of the hotel on the second floor, very clean and bright.
the breakfast was fantastic, in fact we agreed that it is probably the best we have had ever in blackpool, plenty of it very tastey, and not swimming in fat SPOT ON .
will most certainly go back here, the next time we are in blackpool, would be dissapointed if we could not get in. great place, nice frienldy not in your face owners, perfect .

We arrived after a long journey from Southampton, parked the car on the forecourt of the hotel and were then greeted at the door by Vernon, one of the owners of the Howard Hotel. After a quick chat, he showed us to our room, which was a family room - a double with 2 proper single beds (no camp beds!), a small ensuite shower room (with towels), tea/coffee making facilities, a flat screen tv, chest of drawers and a wardrobe - basic but all we needed!

After we had unpacked Vernon took our order for breakfast: a choice of fruit juice, cereals or grapefruit to start, a full english breakfast to follow (fried bread, sausage, 2 rashers of bacon, half a tomato, fried egg and mushrooms, or any combination of the above if you preferred), toast, and tea or coffee, this turned out to be a really nicely cooked breakfast - not greasy at all, just what was needed to start the day! Vernon was able to give us some pointers with regard to using the public transport around Blackpool, and gave us a tram timetable which was very useful. We caught the tram from outside the hotel (there is also a bus stop very nearby as well) and paid £9.00 for a family ticket for the day, which enabled us to use the trams and buses as much as we liked during that day - very useful if you wanted to get from one end of the seafront to the other!!

The hotel itself is situated away from the majority of hustle and bustle of Blackpool's nightlife, which meant that there was no noise at all at night, which was brilliant for us and meant that we could get a much needed decent nights sleep in the comfy beds! As it is a b&b (there are 14 rooms), there is obvously no entertainment but it was nice to go to the small bar in the hotel and relax with a reasonably priced drink and chat with the other guests, and Chris, who is the owners son, who served behind the bar in the evening.

At the end of our break, our children who are both girls, aged 10 and 13, said that they wanted to go back to Blackpool again next year, I then asked if they would like to stay in a bigger hotel, or in this hotel again, and they both said that they want to stay at the Howard again, 'because everyone was so friendly, the beds were comfy and the breakfasts were scrummy', what more can I say!!

Thankyou Vernon, Kath and Chris for a terrific stay, and we hope to see you again next year!!!

We stayed at the Howard Hotel in July for 3 nights, the owner was very friendly and helpful. We had a room at the front and facing the sea. The room was clean and bright.

Although very nice, the hotel was almost a 'throwback' to the days of yore, the facilities and hotel rules almost 'Retro'.

The breakfast is served at 9 o'clock, you are asked on arrival what you want, juice, cereal or grapefruit segments, and that is what you get placed ready for you on your table. The cooked breakfast is then served with two slices of toast, fortunately you are asked if if you would like some more.

In the room you are given a bar of soap, there are no other toiletries.

The place did give the impression that it was run on a shoe string and at 65 British Pounds (approx $100US) it was just about value for money. Although the parking was at times rather haphazard, the owner seemed to manage to have guests logistically poised to move cars for other guests. (Obviously a bonus for having all at breakfast at the same time).

Don't get me wrong, the owner was a nice enough guy but gave the impression one extra luxury could be the difference between solvency and bankruptcy!

The place was situated close to the centre of Blackpool and convenient for trams and buses. Blackpool itself is a story for another day.

Room Tip: We paid a little extra for a sea view.

We (7 guys) booked this hotel as a bolthole for the Open golf championship at Lytham. Reasonably priced, clean rooms although small, comfortable beds and great breakfast, bar prices reasonable and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the very friendly and helpful couple who run this establishment. Great location on seafront and just a short walk to the town centre and bars. All in all a great weekend was had and would certainly use this hotel again if ever in Blackpool in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor at the back are a bit on the wee side and not a lot of room in the ensuite, but...

We decided last-minute to spend a weekend in Blackpool with my wife's parents. Given the current economical climate, we needed to do this on a budget. However, given that a good night's sleep can make or break a 'holiday' I was conscious that we needed to pick our hotel carefully.

Not having been to Blackpool for over a decade and with nobody to make a recommendation meant that we were taking a bit of a gamble on where to stay. Having lived in a seaside town, I am well aware that the cleanliness and service in this type of hotel can be wildly variable so I was not looking forward to 'sticking a pin in the map'

TripAdvisor to the rescue!

The Howard was not the cheapest on our list of possibles but it was the only one with a clean sweep of good reviews. I have to say that we were all VERY pleased to have picked The Howard. It doesn't look too impressive from the outside (my Mother-in-Law was not impressed when we pulled up) but they have got it right where it counts!

It is a family run hotel and they are extremely friendly and accommodating. They even allowed us to leave out cars there all weekend (before we checked in and after we checked out). I suspect this would have been impossible during the peak season but it was a Godsend for us because we are not familiar with the parking locations of Blackpool so it saved us an awful lot of messing about.

We wanted breakfast a little early and this was no trouble either. The breakfast was tasty and well cooked (and not swimming in grease as some of our party expected it to be).

All in all, we were all pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable our stay was. Even my Mother-in-Law said that she would stay there again and she has VERY high standards!

Room Tip: Book direct if you want a sea view. LateRooms didn't have this option (as far as I could tell)

This hotel is in perfect location, not too near the pubs but not too far away, a 10min walk to the town centre & bars. Good ensuite rooms, unfortunately we did not have a sea view room which would have been nice, we went when the weather was pants and asked when we arrived for a sea view room but were told there were none available? although e only seen 1 other group the 2days we were there.. a little dated but nothing a little paint couldn't sort out & shower could be updated too..Bed's were the softest and cosiest I have ever slept in! Had a great nioghts sleep! Breakfast was fab but could have done with some baked beans and it would have been perfect :) A great view of the sea while having breakfast was a lovely treat.. and we were allowed to stay on til 11/11.30am before checking out..Job well done!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view...
