“The staff and the food great - - shame about the rest.”
Reviewed September 13, 2010

I travelled for a weekend break with 3 friends, we chose this hotel as our first choices were fully booked.Very unusual paying cash on arrivel we have not had to do this before. The upstairs areas are very claustrophobic with narrow corridors and small rooms. No shelving in shower room, cold water in shower for first 2 days.Rooms were clean and had been decorated but not to a very high standard. One of the rooms had no bedside light , ours did not have a chair. There was no telephone to contact reception if there was an emergency in the night. The staff however made up for the below par ambiance and facilities , all but one were polite, helpful and obliging. The food was excellent with a varied choice each day.Information regarding the hotel's entertainment was not available to enable us to decide if we would stay in at night , given the vast choice in Blackpool I would suggest the hotel did more to inform their guests of their programme. This would avoid the petted attitude of the young man in charge of the concert room on Friday 10th Sept.He was positively rude as we returned to the hotel because we had chosen to go elsewhere. The hotel needs to have higher standards and rules for guests.1)The A Board stating" overnight guests welcome " needs to go.
2)Guests bringing hot food in to the bar at night not acceptable 3) Nightclothes worn in the restaurant at breakfast not the done thing.4)Beer glasses and take away food wrappings left lying outside the hotel creates a poor first impression. We would not use this hotel again therefore we are unable to recommend it to others .

Had a Fri to sun stay, (for the Northern soul weekend),we had booked to stay in another hotel but they informed us at 5pm on Thursday 1 day before we were due, that we had been changed to this hotel!!!
Unpleasant receptionist would not take card payment, cash only!!!! reception area grubby, and the route to our room did not improve! scary lift !!! threadbare carpets in need of a good clean,as we climbed over the hoover, bags of toilet rolls and stray towels that lay strewn in the narrow corridoors,we finally descended upon our room.Small cramped and disheartening !!! We were 3 ladies sharing a family room, we had 2 single beds and a double, the bathroom left a lot to be desired mainly a shower!!!!!(had to buy a jug to wash hair!!) a 70s throw back in avacado green.
Food acceptable but not great!!!! have to choose dinner (from limited choice) at breakfast AND still didn't get what i ordered, they had run out!!!! meals felt rushed with tea and coffee served as you ate your main!!!!
Well placed for the attractions n at £75 for 2 nights BB+EM just tolerable.

On entering the room, the wallpaper was hanging off, there was no handle on the bathroom door, they managed to move us to another room, which was only just a little better!
I would tell everyone to look for another hotel ..... dont waste your money on this one!!

We got the impression they couldn't organise a booze up in a brewery, we have never been somewhere that is so disorganised. There wasn't one meal time where they didn't get the order wrong, seating plan double booked or forget to serve a meal! We checked in after 4pm and the room still wasn't ready for us! A lot of the staff were very unhelpful and quite unpleasent most the time and in desperate need of training in food hygiene! The only good thing was that it is quite close to the centeral pier, would be good place to stay if you don't intend on eating there or spending anytime in the bar! Also the hotel entertainment didn't start until late each night therefore making it quite difficult to get a good nights sleep if you had an early start the next day. All in all I'm quite happy that I'll never have to go there again!

I stayed at the hollies this weekend with my teenage granddaughters and my daughter.
my fifteen year old shared a twin room with me. the toilet seat may once of been white but it was all scratched and black very unhygenic, the bathroom had a shower but the door of the shower hit the wash basin so you had to get in sideways very carefully, quite hard when you are disabled and not safe to get out of my granddaughter had to help me out. the bathroom had no toilet holder the toilet rolls were on the floor. there was no heating in the bedroom or bathroom, when reported at reception i was told it wasn,t there department, the window would not shut and the best of all the bathroom shelf when you put anything on it slid all the way across the other side as it was on slant. the worst thing of all was the two lifts one in the hollies side and the other in the georgian they kept on getting stuck between floors my granddaughters were terrified their mother had to put her hands on the wall and walk the lift down. when reported we were told we had stood to close to the doors well we were standing at the back of the lift not near the doors. well thank you hollies i now have two teenagers afraid of lifts they spent the weekend useing the stairs and i was on the 3rd floor and my daughter on the 2nd the other side of the hotel. i have stayed in blackpool many times but that was the first and last at the georgian hollies hotel. be aware the pictures don't tell the trus story. i was not the only one to complain we went with liesure time and even the driver said he would never go there again.

As soon as we walked in to the hotel we felt at home. The staff were cheerful, friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean, the beds were very comfortable and there were tea and coffee facilities in the room. (No liquid milk, only powdered milk). The hotel was close to the bars, restaurants and the shopping centre.
There was a choice of meals for dinner to suit all tastes and the breakfasts were more than adequate. The waiters were hilarious and kept all the diners amused with their quick oneliners.
Thank you to all the staff for making our weekend
