“Lovely stay”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

We arrived at the Lyric without booking and was greeted by down to earth Tony one of the hosts who let us view the room before booking as we've had bad experiences with blackpool hotels in the past. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was the best we've had in a blackpool hotel. This is a really good family run hotel and would recomend it to anyone wanting a relaxing break away. At least we know where to go if we visit blackpool again. Thanks Lyric.

Enjoyed our 2 night stay (22.3.13) even tho we picked I think coldest weekend in Blackpool this year! Look forward to returning to the Lyric Hotel later in the year. Hopefully it'll be warmer then! Just wanted to submit what I wrote so far, wont let me as 200 characters needed. What more can a say apart from I can recommend you will be looked after and enjoy your stay at the Lyric. Feel free to ask any requests you might have and this can be arranged for you, ie we were cold and needed extra heating. Thank you for the extra heating provided.

We have just returned from a holiday at the Lyric Hotel, this was the 12th year in a row we have used the Lyric our hosts Tony and Jackie are always on hand to sort out any problems. breakfast is a friendly substantial start to the day, orange juice, cereal, full english with a choice of beans or tomatoes and as much tea and toast as you want what better way to start to the day! Evening meal is a similar experience with soup or fruit juice to start a wonderful home cooked main followed by a scrummy dessert and cheese and crackers (if you have room!!) the whole experience was friendly and relaxed as always. roll on next year can,t wait to return.

I've just come back from Blackpool with my Grandaughter her first time there so i thought i'd make it really special and see if i could get a hotel on the front at a reasonable price. I rang a few but all fully booked when i rang the Lyric i was so pleased to get a room with a sea view i thought it must wrong but yes it was right and what a lovely little hotel; it is very frendly Tony and his wife very really nice and friendly. Great food and my grandaughter had a brilliant time so much so that shes asked to go again next year. Room was very comfortable clean and tidy can't tell you that there was anything wrong cause there wasn't. Well done on a fab stay i'll be back next year with my grandaughter hope you still have the fish tank. Thanks again Jane Phil and Holly.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

We booked on line and rang the day before to say we would probably arrive at 10pm which was fine. There was 1 parking space left but our car didn't fit and the owner was helpful with advice on free parking until the morning when he said he would get one of the other cars to move over. Owner did seem a little tired and said he was looking forward to the winter closure period but its a tough job. We were shown to our room on the top floor at the front with a sea view (well through 1 window as the other was misted due to blown double glazing), given our keys, told about breakfast and the bar opening times and left to our own devices which was fine with us. Room was a family room with 2 small double beds and a tiny en-suite but it was clean and functional and we only went back to sleep and have breakfast so all ok really. Breakfast was good with choices of cereals, toast, cooked breakfast or eggs/beans on toast or boiled eggs and it was all freshly cooked. We had a lovely table near the window so had a sea view again which was nice. Only negative was the 9-9.30am slot which is a little restrictive on a weekend.
We only used the bar once on a return from a long day out and took the drinks to our room. Checkout was simple and quick as all details were taken from our on line booking. All staff worked very hard and its obviously a small family run business but as stated overall it was a good value B&B in a great location for the Central pier, Pleasure beach and Tower.

Room Tip: Top floor at the front family room. Very quiet and with a sea view. Must be able to climb stairs t...

Location - perfect. On the seafront a short walk from the pleasure beach and main restaurants to the left and the main town centre a 20 min walk to the right.

Parking (free) - there are 6 parking spaces at the hotel, 3 in front of the other so obviously 3 cars will be blocked in. It's first come first served and you strictly aren't allowed to park on there before 12 midday.

Staff - on the whole helpful and friendly. INSISTED on payment for the rooms in cash despite the info leaflet in the rooms saying they accept all cards etc.

Rooms - basic, bed made nicely. Kettle with coffee and tea sachets and milk pots.
En-suite cramped and the floor was filthy but the towels all clean white and the shower was in a good clean state. The shower was weak, water pressure was awful and the shower was cold for approx the first 5-10 mins so we'd put it on well in advance; huge waste of water!
The window in the room was filthy with dirt on the windowsill including pigeon feathers (these feathered friends liked to coo all night from their nests on walls outside the window and unfortunately it was clear as day through the very old single glazing!).
The TV and freeview box wouldn't even switch on. Basic hair dryer included.
The mattress was the worst I've experienced in a while unfortunately, could feel a lot of springs and the husband and I slid into the middle through the nights which meant little sleep for our break away.

Breakfast - served only between 9 & 9.30 am. Pleasant with toast & jam plus cereals and an option of a full cooked English too. Cooked breakfast was 1/2 a piece of fried bread, one deep fat fried sausage, one rasher of bacon, beans, one hash brown and one fried egg. Tea/coffee and a very small glass of orange juice.
Overall greasy but could be a lot worse.

This place is ideal for someone who is going to Blackpool for a trip where there intend on being out most of the time and can sleep easy anywhere :-) Oh and you can't be too hung up on immaculate cleanliness!
