“NOT what it says on the tin!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

me and my husband stayed for one night anniversary /50th bday treat. We booked a superior room. On arrival ken the owner greeted us and showed us where to park and up to our room offering to carry our bagswhich was nice, proceeded to take us up to the top of the house where our room was no 6. Well..... we said thank you after he had told us about the breakfast forms etc, then the realisation that 1. it was a attic room with a skylight which i would never had booked if i had known this (does not tell you on website) cos i feel claustrofobic but in the end i said to my husband its just one night? on the plus side very clean good sized tv very small en suite.... but with nice little extras (cotton wool buds pads etc) anyway came home later inthe evening quite late and went to bed , You have to leave the skylight open or you will be sweating so .... it rained thru the night quite heavily and i never slept very well as my husband was right under the gap and i was worried he d get rained on(which did happen but we managed to laugh it off)... Went down to breakfast got our cereals orange juice sat down and proceeded to eat my cornflakes. meanwhile i think the waitress (the daughter) i think was coming in with our tea and coffee so far so good...then..... proceeded to place my breakfast in front of me while i was still eating my cereal! i said"can i finish my cereal first?" she said yes of course... but still left the breakfast there! this made me quite annoyed as i then felt you were on a conveyor belt :lets get rid quick? The breakfast was very nice to be fair and needless to say we finished up packed the car and came downstairs to give back the key as we couldent wait to go..My husband then tried to hand the key back to the lady owner who was quite flustered looking for a guest and never said goodbye or nothing.... i notice after reading on here people have said the owners are quite aloof and not very people orientated well i dont know... but i would NEVER stay here again as i felt quite that we were a incumberance she could have done without... oh and another thing if you like to be secure then this is the place cameras and locks everywhere(well you can never be too careful) Oh to show im fair there is car parking here which is rare in blackpool,,,, and its quite near the pleasure beach .... just make sure your,e fit for the stairs !!!!!

Thank for you taking the time and trouble to leave this review.

We are disappointed you found the trek up two flights of stairs and found the room claustrophobic. Our policy at Moorbank House is to show guests to their rooms get them settled in after their usually long journey to Blackpool and then ask them to come down when they are ready to register and settle the bill. If you found the room unsatisfactory you only simply needed to ask us at registration and we would have tried to find you something more suitable. If I recall correctly you had at least 15 minutes to consider any requests before you came down but none were forthcoming?

Yours is the first comment of this type regarding this room which does have a kingsize bed, 32 inch flat screen TV and enough free floorspace to justify us letting it as a family room (2 Ad 1 Ch) when required. In fact we have people telephone us requesting this particular room and no other. If your medical condition has diminished the enjoyment of your stay then we can only apologise whilst at the same time pointing out that on the booking page of our website it does clearly state the room is on the second floor.

It appears there was a misunderstanding at breakfast, you decided to get yourself some cereal after you had been sat a short while and whilst we were preparing your cooked breakfast. We prepared and brought in your breakfast thinking your place was clear.

Kathy nearly bumped into your husband whilst trying to catch another guest to pass a message. The incident was laughed off (your husband in fact laughed and said that's ok) you handed in your key, she thanked you and you left. This was in addition to the conversation she had with you at registration, pointing out where the attractions were and some ideas on where to eat that evening.

As is common with many bed and breakfasts in Blackpool we now have CCTV covering all the public rooms and the areas to the front and rear of the guest house. This increases guest safety, is actively promoted by the local council and police and is a condition of the licence we have. We are at a loss in understanding your comment about 'locks everywhere'? Guests need only two keys to access the property. One for the front door and one for their room. Of course we lock the bar area when the facility is closed but why would anyone wish to enter it when it is so?

Overall I was happy with our stay here, especially for the price and location. If you want ‘away from the high street noise’, but still ‘close by for the south and central piers, this is handy. Although you must enjoy a leisurely walk for the central pier.

The breakfast is cooked to your preference which you chose on a tick sheet given on arrival, and is of good quality food. We had a twin room which was bright and airy, the bathroom spacious and had ‘extras’ such as cotton face pads, ear buds, glasses, coffee, etc.

We were able to come and leave as we pleased, we had a parking spot on site, and we were able to have a cd player in our room (considering our neighbours of course).

The only negative I have it that there isn't much interaction with the owners. When I go away with my partner, we often get to know the landlord/lady. However, perhaps for a girly weekend away or party weekend, such a thing isn’t necessary.

Will definitely return for a price of £94 per 2-night stay for 2 people =) Hope it’s of similar cost during the illuminations!

We stayed at Moorbank House for 3 nights from August 14-17 (2 Adults and 2 Teens). The family room we booked was a good surprise as we had 2 bedrooms and the en suite. Each room had its own TV and we had tea & coffee making facilities in the adults room. The girls were in bunk beds. Breakfast every morning was as ordered and came to the table hot and fresh. Kathy was a great help for directions and bus routes and she had a supply of offers available for local attractions that you could help yourself to. We would definitely recommend Moorbank House especially for its proximity to the Pleasure Beach and the Water Park and hope to stay there again when we next visit Blackpool.

Moorbank bed and breakfast is spotless, in a great location and parking was very easy. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and breakfast was nice and served by a friendly waitress. The only thing we noticed was the lack of hospitality from the owners, they are very efficient and helpful but we felt it lacked the personal touch. We didn't feel that welcome but perhaps its a busy period and they don't have time to make pleasantries with every guest. However great value for money.

We have just returned from staying here. There were 2 adults and 1 child. We arrived early, and we were allowed to park our car. We then went off to explore Blackpool, getting back around 3pm. Kathy took us to the room, which was a nice size, clean and was decorated to a good standard. The only downside - to get into the bathroom, you had to negotiate yourself, as there was not a lot of room to get in, but this did not spoil anything. Once in the bathroom, there was plenty of room to shower, wash and use the toilet.

We booked breakfast, and paid for the room after we had settled in, and found this easy. Kathy was very helpful.

Breakfast the next morning was good, very hot and cooked nicely. There was plenty of it, as well as cooked, you could also have cereals, yogurts and juices.

The location is good, close to the Pleasure Beach, and only a 15 minute walk to the Tower.

If we ever go back an visit Blackpool again, we would definately stay here again.

Stayed for one night on 29th July. We arrived earlier than check-in but were able to park on the front of the property, a big bonus! Our room was great! We have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and we stayed in room 9A which is like a mini-flat! It has an en-suite shower/toilet and separate bedrooms! One with a double bed and one with bunk-beds. Both rooms had storage for clothing etc and each room had its own TV...not a necessity I know, although very useful when you have young children that only want to watch CBeebies and CITV etc! Tea/coffee making facilities in room and also hairdryer provided. Very clean throughout and alo very friendly without feeing too intrusive. Ken welcomed us into the hotel and showed us to our room. He was very friendly, knowledgable and professional, as were Kathy and I pressume their daughter who served us our breakfast. Breakfast was fantastic. Home cooked food, as much cereal/toast/yogurts/orange juice/tea/coffee/milk as you like. Situated a very short walk to the Pleasure Beach and the South Pier. Tram stops obviously on the seafront if you want to go up towards to Tower end of Blackpool which we did but as it was a pleasant day we walked. Lots of work has happened on the seafront, looks loads better than it did a few years ago when I last visited Blackpool. All in all, excellent value accomodation in a good, quiet area, family friendly and great food. Don't really know what more you could want from a B&B!
