“Good clean hotel but could do with a makeover”
Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

Stayed for 1 night and can't say much bad about the hotel. the owners were lovely and keen to help on check in.
Booked a triple room which was located on the top floor up very sterp stairs. The room was clean and ensuite with a shower.
The room was fine the only complaint would be the decor the room was brown with dark brown bedding which made the room feel small and very out dated. A lick of paint and fresh white bedding would be so much better.
Lots of tea and coffee facilitie in the room.
The hotel has a bar downstairs which opens till 12 and has a pool table.
Breakfast was excellent.
Fruit juice tea and coffee and toast.
A good selection of cooked breakfast items was offered.
Overall I would stay here again as it was a bargain and very central.
We parked in the central car park opposite which cost around £30 for a day and a half

We stayed here after reading such positive reviews on Tripadvisor and I have to say it wasn't what I expected. The rooms we had were ok, they are very old - the walls were clean enough with fresh paint but they are rough and cracked, a little dusty in places and the bin in the bathroom had not been emptied however the shower and toilet were spotless and the towels and bedding were clean and fresh. Unfortunately, the bed was so uncomfortable I had to fold the quilt over and use it as a kind of mattress topper and the pillows were very flat. The hosts were very welcoming and explained the rules, including not being allowed to take food into the rooms. I can understand their concerns after sharing the dining room with some of the other guests who I am sure I will see again, probably on ITV 1 at 9.25 on weekday mornings for DNA results for the numerous children they had within their party - Mum, Dad, 3 daughters, their partners and the broods. Unfortunately, some of them were directly above us and used the bed as a trampoline and launch pad - this went on until 11.30 one night and at one point, woke my children up. The next night we were subjected the the whole family making use of the benches and wall outside the hotel, whilst drinking beer, smoking and allowing the feral children to run riot. Needless to say, my window remained shut that night, despite the heat! Breakfast is served between 9 - 9.30, could do with maybe starting at 8.30 as guests are pacing around starving. That said, breakfast was really nice, with a selection of cereals, fruit juices and cereal bars to help yourself too, toast and a full English with tea and coffee. The dining area is in the basement, really clean and freshly decorated but very very hot!

This is a standard B&B. Food is nice, bar area is nice, there is wifi which is a bit slow but ok. I've stayed in better but I have also stayed in worse! The location is very close to Coral Island and there is a good chippie on the corner (the egg custard slice comes highly recommended!) The parking is very limited but there are car parks within a 2 min walk. Would I stay there again? Maybe, in the hope that the new owners update a little and if they are responsible for upgrading the dining area then there is hope for the Atlantis.

I nearly forgot, the TV channels are a bit hit and miss and the UHT milk pots in my room were out of date. I left a soured one open so hopefully the cleaner took the hint!

The hotel had been taken over in last month and the current owners did not make you welcome at all. There was a group of women aged 18 - 70 and everyone had some issues with the hotel.
When I checked in there was a full bin from previous occupier in the bathroom, in another room dirty towels left behind bathroom door. Windows did not open in some rooms and some rooms smelt. You could buy a drink from the bar which was very reasonable in price, but could not take it to your room, the hotel did not serve food, but you were not allowed to take food in!!!! Breakfast was small but well cooked. One of our party was bitten in the night and her bed had bugs. In a room of six whilst it was good that you had two showers and toilets, there were 2 x bunk beds and 2 x single but only one room key, which did prove inconvenient. TV did not work and Tea and coffee was in the room but it never got replaced, neither did the towels. I hope these are just teething problems with the new owners, however I can see it getting worse before better as the female owner is rude, unhelpful and abrupt, where as the man was helpful. I personally will not recommend it or indeed ever stay again. Location good, but very noisy as walls are thin and our next room obviously enjoyed their time if you get my drift.... The whole hotel was talking about it ver breakfast... Not clean, not friendly, not nice but we all just accepted it for what it was and enjoyed the annual get together xx

Do try the bistro by the sea front for lunch, quite expensive but lovely and great spot.

Room Tip: Ask to see all available rooms but they are all pretty much not nice

Sorry your party did not enjoy their stay at the Atlantis Hotel. However your party was a booking past on. So we may not have been the Hotel for yours. As we do not allow cases of alcohol to be consumed in rooms or food to be eaten in rooms. Your party were told on arrival they could bring food into Hotel and eat in Bar lounge. As for myself and my so called behaviour as your group said. I was quite upset that your party was not organised on arrival who was sleeping in which rooms. As you were giving rooms and how many beds there were in each room. We had a full Hotel that weekend and we tried to please everyone. Regarding your comment on bed bugs we have acted on this and have been advised by Death to Pests there are no bed bugs present in any of our rooms. We also thought it was very disrespectful to take Hotel white towels to your beach party. You could have asked for older towels which was more appropriate to take to beach. On check-out day at 10.30am the party was allowed to leave their luggage in the bar area so they could go shopping. They returned to get ready for their bus pick-up. However their bus was 2 hours late and we offered the party to put their bags back in the bar area and to uses the facilities until their bus came.

Hotel is old, its not run down, but its a terraced hotel and they were all built at the same time, so they cant do a lot, BUT they could update the windows. My room had old sash windows that you have to pull up to open, and they dont stay up/open so I had to wedge my jar of vitamins in the window to get any air in the room.

Single room, en-suite, TV, tea making facilities, hair dryer on request, no wardrobe but hangers on a wall mounted rail, no problem with the bedroom, no real problem with anything to be honest, just nothing to set it apart from any other run of the mill hotel/B&B.

Shower took some lateral thinking as it comes on cold and stays that way, until you turn it back 'down' to cold and then back 'up' to hot, think it has a safety notch when going from cold to hot so you dont burn yourself, everyone leaves it on hot once they have got it there and leaves it that way, so when next person switches it on, shower thinks 'cannot scold' so stays cold until that user goes through the rigmarole of confriming you want hot shower. I sorted it, but another of our party didnt and had two days of cold showers, ha ha.

Breakfast room is in the basement and has been done up very nicely (hope they progress through the rest of the hotel like that), breakfast was OK, nice choice of cereals and nut bars, very healthy, and even the full English is 'healthy' as there was not too much of it. This might suit their usual clientelle, but we were three football fans for an end of season jolly and could have done with more substance.

Cant honestly 'big it up' as a great place, nothing drastically wrong (except ancient windows if you want some fresh air) so dont be put off, but it is only average

Room Tip: Mates single room had very high windows which you had to stand to see out of, so you dont want that...
