Description: At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating  lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. With five stars, one Michelin Star and three AA Rosettes, warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences at these two luxury country houses spanning two estates in the beautiful Lake District.  Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, ‘Hrishi’, where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in ‘Gilpin Spice’ a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. At Gilpin Hotel all of the bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - 6 Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and 5 fabulous detached Spa Lodges with private ensuite spas (rainmaker showers and steam rooms inside, hydrotherapy hot tubs and saunas outside) for a very special, private experience. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, just 6 suites enjoy exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds, including a stunningly beautiful private lake, boat house, pool, hot-tubs and spa.

We have visited Gilpin for lunch on a few occasions now and have thoroughly enjoyed each visit. The food is always delicious, beautifully presented and portioned sensibly to enjoy three courses which is great value at £30.There's a limited choice at lunch time although it is possible to mix and match between the restaurant menu and the light lunch selection. Helpfully, each restaurant dish is paired with a wine recommendation, available by the glass. All staff work hard to deliver excellent service in a friendly manner and we have always been made to feel very welcome.

My husband and I visited Gilpin Lodge on Saturday 13th April for dinner with our good friends to celebrate their birthdays. We had dined there previously and our second visit was just as wonderful. From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable and we were made to feel special. In the lounge area we were served per dinner drinks and a selection of canapés, which were delicious. The 5 course dinner was exceptional, really well presented, we also chose to have the recommended wines with the staters and main dishes and we all agreed the food and wines were excellent and the best dining experience we had ever had. We have decided to make this an annual event. Thank you to all of the staff for a lovely evening.

Took my Fiancée to Gilpin for a birthday treat, this is the third time we have been any we really enjoyed it. The food is excellent the atmosphere is relaxed and the staff can't do enough for you. Would of been a five star review but there were a few little thing that could of being improved. The dining room was quite cold, we were sat on a two table in the window, the dining room could of done with some low background music to prevent neighbouring tables listening to your conversation. Our table top was loose and on occasion tipped making the drinks etc move. Felt a little uncomfortable with one of the owners coming into the restaurant and talking to everyone, this happened last time we visited. Lastly the waiter took our payment and we were just left to leave. In other fine dining establishments we have been escorted out and had the door opened. Only little niggles I know but it's a shame when they are trying to make everything perfect.

My partner and I went for dinner to celebrate our respective birthdays and had a memorable meal. Each of the many courses was exquisite and inventive in both content and presentation, the house wines were excellent and all the staff were friendly and attentive. The ambience of the whole place was quiet, comfortable and relaxing (no background music, thank goodness) but we found the dining room rather cool and our table by a door was subject to intermittent draughts.(It was a cold evening outside).

We had a fabulous evening meal that seemed to never end! 2 different amuse bouche in the bar with champagne, at the table a twist on fish & "crinkle" chips with mushy peas prior to our starters. The starters of fois gras & of scallops were beautifully presented & accompanied with wines to match each dish. The main courses of venison & sea bass were also excellent again matched with lovely wines. Prior to our ordered dessert we were presented with a mini dessert which was a twist on the old Walls' ice cream "Feast". Then we had our desserts followed by coffee & 3 different petit fours again in the bar! All in a lovely experience. We were well & truly repleat at the end of the meal & we had wished we had stayed at the hotel rather than having to go home afterwards.

The atmosphere is quiet & reserved with no background music, having said that it certainly didn't stop us enjoying ourselves. The reserved nature being the guests rather than the restaurant staff themselves. The meal for 2 came to just over £200 including gratuity. Having said that it was worth the money for a lovely experience. If the food makes you smile as it is served & again as you eat then that is about as much as you can ask for.
