Description: At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating  lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. With five stars, one Michelin Star and three AA Rosettes, warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences at these two luxury country houses spanning two estates in the beautiful Lake District.  Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, ‘Hrishi’, where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in ‘Gilpin Spice’ a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. At Gilpin Hotel all of the bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - 6 Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and 5 fabulous detached Spa Lodges with private ensuite spas (rainmaker showers and steam rooms inside, hydrotherapy hot tubs and saunas outside) for a very special, private experience. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, just 6 suites enjoy exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds, including a stunningly beautiful private lake, boat house, pool, hot-tubs and spa.

This is a review solely for the restaurant at Gilpin Lodge as we weren’t lucky enough to be staying here....we will be on our next visit! We came to the Lakes to attend a cookery class at Lucy Cooks that we thoroughly enjoyed, and decided to treat ourselves to a special lunch, and special it really was! A beautiful place wonderful staff, who really should be commended as they made us feel very at home and really looked after...service really does make a big difference and so many places seem to miss the mark. A three course lunch of that caliber for £30 really is fantastic value for money and I would not hesitate to recommend Gilpin Lodge to any one for a wonderful experience from start to finish.
I hope this does not sound too gushing but we really were impressed by Gilpin Lodge and can’t wait to visit again!

Visited in early September for afternoon tea. Was a lovely day so sat in the garden. Really peaceful surroundings which made the trip.

Afternoon tea was great the usual selection of sandwiches on vintage table wear. Some of the cakes were quite large, which is great for some people. However I think smaller with more choice is better for afternoon tea. That being said it was a very enjoyable afternoon with friends.

Would like to return for an evening meal :-)

Sat in the lounge on a comfy sofa with a nice relaxing atmosphere being waited on hand and foot. The sandwiches were a good selection of flavours and the salmon mouse on toasted brioche was devine. The scones were lovely and light and the clotted cream was lighter then some and not as buttery which I prefer. Plenty of cream and jam. The banana cake was moist and had the extra caramel flavour of a brulee crust but it was left in the dust compared to the chocolate and walnut brownie and the apple and sabalyon (?) shortbread. Best bit of the whole tea was the poached plums served with cooked yoghurt in a shot glass. Lovely, rich and creamy with tarty fruit layer. Perfect portion size and generous amounts of tea with hot water to top up.
I had booked tea here as a thank you for a friend. I hadn't visited before and wasn't let down by Gilpin Lodge. They treated us very well even when the dinner guests arrived we weren't hurried and were made us feel very welcome. At £18 a head they offer good value and we'll be visiting again.

This was a delightful 5 star experince. I just loved the feel of the place upon walking in. We had been looking for lodging and since they were full, we dined with them instead. Lovely and tasty presentation of the food. It was great sitting next to Seamus Coleman and his beautiful girlfriend. :-)
