“Excellent stay at the firgarth”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013 via mobile

Just spent a 3 night stay at the firgarth and it is a lovely guest house. set just outside windermere on the main road into windermere it is well placed for you to get to all the local sights.
The room was on the top floor facing the main road and it is triple glazed so most of the noise from the main road is blocked out but you still hear some so if you are bothered by noise then ask for a rear facing room. that said it did not bother us at all and we were very pleased with our room. the bed was king sized and very comfortable and the furniture lovely. there was a large tv and tea/coffee making facilities and the ensuite very modern and spotless!
The breakfasts were lovely with a great choice and freshly cooked to perfection!
Our hosts were lovely too, very friendly!
It takes 10-15 mins to walk uphill into town for dinner at night. we enjoyed this as it meant we were ready for our dinner. we also enjoyed our walk downhill home at night as we walked off our dinner!
All in all we had a wonderful time in the most gorgeous part of the country and we will definitely be back!

we travelled to Windermere for a family wedding. After looking at several properties, decided the Firgarth had just what we were looking for.On arrival, we were immediately made to feel at home, coffee and biscuits and some ideas of what we might like to do and see during our stay.
we were then offered a choice of 2 spacious yet cosy rooms to choose from, we chose the attic room with the slanting roof and beamed ceiling.
the proprietors were most friendly and helpful. A good choice for breakfast very plentiful, the best cooked breakfast i've ever tasted.
the location was very central for walking into Windermere, a drive to the lake itself, and a short drive to Ambleside,Grassmere, Kendal or Keswick.
Would have no problem with recommending The Firgarth, and would certainly pay it another visit should we be in the area again.
A very good value for money, and nothing to much trouble. A lovely home away from home stay

Room Tip: The attic room was a very spacious yet cosy room

We stayed at this B&B on 7th Feb for one night and it was excellent value for money. A very warm welcome and lots of helpful advice available about local restaurants and walks. The room was very comfortable and faultlessly clean. The breakfast was generous with an extensive range of choices. We would definitely recommend this B&B and would have no hesitation in returning to stay again.

As the half term holiday was a week later than usual this year, my husband and I decided to take advantage of the 3 night winter break offer at Firgarth to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had previously stayed earlier this year (fantastic sunny weather) and even at that time decided that we would like to return in the autumn and experience the fantastic scenery in all its autumnal glory. We were not disappointed - especially as all around the rest of the country it was raining, cloudy and thoroughly miserable - the Lake District enjoyed weather that was relatively warm, the sun was out quite a bit - and we were out without coats most of the time. On arriving at the hotel, as previously we were warmly welcomed by Colin and shown to our room (we declined the offer of a cuppa knowing that such facilities were available in the room). Our room was again immaculately clean, very, very comfortable and roomy and it is obvious Colin and Pam have thought of everything to make their visitors welcome and feel at home. The breakfasts available are brilliant! Hubby had a cooked breakfast every day and Colin cooked whatever was requested superbly. A cooked breakfast was too much for me but the selection of fresh fruit salad (I could have eaten the lot - I wish I could prepare one that tasted as good), yoghurt, cereals - you name it - it was available. Pam was very attentive to all her guests so that they had what they wanted. On our first trip, Colin and Pam recommended a visit to Orrest Head Viewpoint and Holehird Gardens as both were fairly local. We managed Holehird Gardens and the gardens were beautiful - it is so peaceful and the variety of plants on display were magnificent. We returned again to see it in the autumn and it was still beautiful despite the summer display having ended. It is only a 10 minute drive from the hotel at the most. Entrance is free but donations are very, very welcome as obviously the upkeep of such gardens must involve cost. There are also volunteers who will answer questions on plants and the gardens etc. This time we also managed to walk up Orrest Head. It is a slow climb - but the panoramic views from the top are a sight to behold. For the unfit (like us) - we just took it nice and slow. There are seats all along the route and at the top and is certainly worth the effort for the view. During our descent, we met a couple - she was 86 and he was 83 - and very determined to make it to the top, which I am sure they did.

Colin and Pam noticed the wedding anniversary cards in our room and it really touched us that they gave us a card wishing us a happy anniversary. This is the sort of people they are. As hosts, they work tirelessly to ensure their guests have a warm and pleasant experience during their stay. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Firgarth as a lovely place to stay.

Returned home yesterday after a pleasant 2 night stay here. Colin made us very welcome when we arrived with tea and coffee, and told us the best places to eat locally. Our room number 3 was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The breakfasts here are very good and if you are extremely hungary Colin will give you extra bacon, sausages etc. Both Pam and Colin are so friendly they make you feel like family and the hotel like home. We will definetly be going back in the new year and would recommend the Firgarth to our friends and family.

Colin and Pam make you very welcome as soon as you arrive with a pot of tea and information about the area. They can tell you how to get to most places in the area! The rooms are very comfortable - warm and very clean.
The bath towels are huge!
There is WiFi available on request.
There is off road parking.
Colin makes an excellent "low fat" breakfast with fried bread to die for!
Nothing was too much trouble during our stay.
We went to a large hotel in Kendal afterwards but I would say the Firgarth was by far more comfortable.
