“Very nice guest house”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

Spent 2 nights here and the room was very nice and extremely clean with an en suite which included a massive shower and heated towel rails. Nice surprise when we arrived that our room had it's own parking space (we had room 9 on the ground floor) and received a warm and helpful welcome when we checked in.
Breakfast was between 8.30 and 9.15, although we were told we didn't have to rush if we were a wee bit late and had a nice selection to choose from.
I would recommend and would definitely consider staying here in the future.

My wife and I have just spent 2 nights here and were blown away with the room we had, A huge room with all its Victorian charm which ran all through the house. Ross and June were the owners and made us feel so welcome letting us check in early due to bad weather was very welcome as we were soaked. We had a beautiful four poster kingsize bed and got lost in it. The breakfast was plentiful and the staff were excellent. The Newstead is situated around halfway between Bowness and Windermere so you can leave your car parked up behind the guest house and walk to either within 15mins. Would recommend this place to anybody wanting to explore the area.

Just spent a couple of days here. After a long horrible drive in heavy torrential rain we arrived earlier than the check in time of 4pm.June was on hand to greet us and took us straight up to our room although it wasn't quite ready. We were then taken back down stairs to complete our booking in and to be shown where to go for breakfast the next morning. June then gave us a very informative description of what was where in the area, what buses to get on if we didn't fancy driving and the best scenery to photograph. We were also provided with a map of the Lake District. In the lounge were numerous books and magazines about the area which provided us with information on where to go and eat. Our cosy double room with en suite was now ready for us.
The whole hotel appeared to be very well looked after and very clean. I must congratulate Ross on cooking the best full English breakfast we have ever eaten. There is a huge choice but I would recommend the full breakfast as everything came out perfectly cooked and remained hot until I had managed to devour it.
On our leaving June remembered we had taken a trip around the lakes( see Lake Supertours reviews) and seemed really interested in how the tour went. It was nice to know that she had taken some interest in our conversation about our plans for the 2 days we stayed there.
Overall it was a very pleasant stay and we would definitely use this hotel again.

We went there back in 2009 along with my wife. The stay, the special breakfast and the hospitality was so brilliant. I wish I could go there again. The lovely couple Ross & June Nicolson took such great care and also explained few recipes that was taught to them by few celebrities including The Beatles and we were so thrilled, considering we were vegetarians and still managed to get loads of varities

We stayed at The Newstead as a little treat for our Wedding Anniversary. From the first meeting by the owner/proprietor, we were made to feel very welcome and offered local information on places to visit, things to do and see as well as recommendations of where to eat (from previous guests recommendations). The hotel is tastefully decorated throughout with lots of local information leaflets available in the guest lounge. Parking is ample and free within the grounds of the hotel which is situated right in-between Windermere and Bowness (within walking distance of both places). Our room was a four-poster room with a very good sized 4 poster bed of very good quality. The room was nicely decorated with some lovely quality furniture and tea/coffee making facilities within. The bathroom was immaculately clean with high quality WC and sink and shower cubicle with complimentary toiletries and plenty of bathroom tissue. The towels were delightfully soft, fluffy and VERY white and hot water on demand in the shower.

Breakfast was magnificent - a choice of a full English including bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, mushrooms, fried egg, tomato. Fruit juice, cereal, fruit, scrambled egg with smoked salmon and a choice of freshly brewed cafetière of coffee or pot of tea as well as a choice of white, brown or mixed toast.

I would have no hesitation staying here again. Very impressed.

Room Tip: Room 6 is a four poster room - recommend.

Brilliant little guest house. Close ti the train station as we dont drive. Something like a 5 mins taxi ride to it. Although we walked it there on our way back because it was so close. The hotel is not too far from lake winderemere (we got engaged here on on this trip) the local shops and restraunts are all close by. The restraunts tend to close ealry around there about 10pm. Could be because we are used to being in busy manchester that closing early sounds strange lol. the manager is very friendly and although we had no problems he came accross as if we had any he would be happy to put it right. He also gave reccomendations of the lbest restraunts to go to and he was right as there is a chinese restraunt and the food is cooked fresh and is really nice (i dont even usually like chinese food but my fiance loves it, even i thought it was nice)
The room was very clean, expensive good quality furniture in it. We stayed in the four poster bedroom. The bed frame was a bit squeeky but the actual mattress was so comfortable i didnt want to get up. The heating in the room worked and it had a tv that worked too although you couldnt watch the tv lay in bed because the bed was too high (probably because it was a four poster) the towel heating rack didnt work but thats neither here nor there. Breakfast is served for 45 mins only. Which is really understandable so they dont spend all day everyday in the kitchen. The breakfast was very nice. All locally sourced food where possible. A great selection of breakfast was put on. They even had classical music on while you waited. We had a full english breakfast on both mornings, they even offered us a choice of white or brown toast. We are very much hoping to come back and stay here again in the future.
