My wife and I stayed a Fir Trees two night (and, sadly, one very rainy day). On the main streeet (not noisy or heavily traveled) between Bowness and central Winderemere (about 12-13 minutes' walk to Bowness --and many restaurant choices -- a little less to Windermere). Our room was spacious and even had a small sitting area. The bathroom for this particular room was quite small (even one person needed to navigate carefully!) and had a "precision-sized" shower stall. Everything was immaculately clean.
Bea and Bob are superb hosts. It's a business, of course; but they seem to genuinely enjoy their guests and are concerned that they enjoy their time in the Lakes. At breakfast (lovingly prepared by Bob), you don't have that "business-like" feeling that you get a some B&B's -- it's really more like you're a guest at a friend's house, and they really want to please you. No hesitations -- Fir Trees is a great choice in Winderemere / Bowness.

We couldn't have chosen a better place for our stay. The location is excellent, in waking distance to Windermere and Bowness. It's situated on a main but quite road.and parking facilities was excellent for us as we were on a trike, safe and secure. A beautiful house, very welcoming. The house and room was very clean, nicely decorated and well appointed with all you could need for your stay. The bedroom had a seperate area to sit , read, watch tv or have a coffee which we liked. The owners were extremely friendly and pleasant. The Lake District and Fir Trees was fabulous and we can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Contact the Firs direct.

My Wife and I were initially booked into room 8 but upon arrival we were upgraded to room 6 and all this at no extra cost. Room 6 is probably the best room in the house, large, very clean, separate sofa and large en-suite with both separate shower and bath and because we were at the rear of the house very quite. Bea and Bob were excellent hosts, very friendly and informative, Bob offered me an alternative but more scenic route to Lake Coniston. Very good choice at breakfast and because my wife does not eat breakfast they doubled up on my portions, nice touch. The house itself is ideally situated as it is only a 10minute walk to both Windermere town and also to the lake.I would have no hesitation in recommending this guest house to anyone and as this was our 3rd year in a row in the lakes, this guest house is the ONE that we shall come back to.

Room Tip: Room 6 is brillant and very comfortable

First off, if you're sensitive to smells, you may want to think twice about this place. Glade plug-ins are in full force. Initially pleasant, but don't hang around in the main hallway too long!
Second, the room was neat and clean enough, although the top bed spread is clearly not washed. It's showing signs of wear and had hair in the balled fabric.
Third, four star rating!? Really? Three max.
Fourth, we stayed 2 nights. On the first night the two dogs could be heard barking somewhere in the house at 10:30pm. On the second night, the proprietors seemed to have gone out for the evening, leaving their two dogs outside in the back yard. The back door directly next to our room. If you don't mind one big dog barking and scratching at your door for two hours, and one small yappy dog joining in, well then this is the place for you. This went on past 11:30pm! For paying guests, (for non-paying guests too!) this is inexcusable!
Very good breakfast and kind hostess though. But seriously, some small but significant things need to change. We want our money back.

Room Tip: Lake Road has tons (!) of guest houses.

Our dogs ( a 5 month old puppy & a Lakeland Terrier) had been barking, we later discovered that there had been some fireworks going off nearby. Obviously, had we been here we would have brought the dogs into OUR house, the dogs are not allowed in the Guest House at all. This review makes it sound like the dogs were scratching on the guest bedroom door.
We apologised profusely to the guests and it appeared like our apology was accepted by them.
We feel like you have been very spiteful with this review. I am in the rooms every day, cleaning and have excellent ladies who help me and work to very high standards at all times. I totally resent the criticism that the bedspreads were grubby & covered in hair........all I can say is that it must have been your hair and that the bedspreads are washed frequently or as necessary. Anyone who knows me knows that I am O.C. D. about cleanliness and am fussy to the point of being paranoid.
These guests were after having a refund, but that is not going to happen, they had a good comfortable stay with good breakfasts. It WAS unfortunate that the dogs disturbed their evening and we shall ensure that it will not happen again.
We welcomed you into our home and feel that you are trying to use the Dog barking as an excuse for a refund.

Just got back from this guest house can't fault it both Bea and Bob very welcoming nothing to much trouble. Room very clean and comfortable tea and coffee facilities topped up daily linen and towels changed everday. We were also able to store our bikes at no extra charge and all the facilites needed for a weekend break were within walking distance.
