“Stunning setting, Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013 via mobile

The Cragwood boasts wonderful views of Lake Windermere. We had the delight of staying in Room 5 which is part of the old building (the hotel is made up of 'old side' and 'new side'). The room was spotlessly clean, lovely decor, and stunning views. The bed was absolutely huge and so comfortable!
Service was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was delicious - full English cooked to order along with buffet style selection of cereals, croissants and juices.
The only reservation we had is that when checking out the next morning we noticed (as doors were open whilst cleaning was in progress) that not all the rooms were as nice as ours - we probably wouldn't have been quite as happy with our stay if we had been in one of these rooms.
However we were in a beautiful room for our stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Highly recommend the Cragwood.

Having booked the sister hotel (Merewood) for our daughters wedding in December we took a three day break at the Cragwood where we were hoping to use as overspill for our guests accomodation. Coincidentally the hotel was offering two rounds of golf at Windermere Golf Club as part of the three day package at no extra cost making it an extremely attractive package for golfers.- Windermere golf course is short but "tight", is in extremely good condition and must have some of the best views of any golf course in the world.

We found everything about the hotel to be pretty near perfect, the hotel is based around a beautiful "gentlemans residence" in a fabulous situation overlooking the lake. The staff could not be more helpful, the food was superb and we found the bar prices very reasonable for a four star hotel. Many of the friendly guests were regulars which speaks for itself and those who were experiencing the lakes for the first time were suitably impressed and all vowed to return as soon as possible.

Finally, many thanks to Philip the "hands on" manager in helping us arrange accomodation for our daughters wedding.

Room Tip: Always worth asking for a room with a lake view which is stunning

Myself and my boyfriend visited the Cragwood Hotel for two nights at the end of June for a wedding and it was one of the loveliest weekends! I was so relaxed and immediately felt at home. The staff were lovely and very helpful and the entire place was spotless but extremely cosy feeling.
This was my first trip up to the Lake District and I couldn't have got a better view for it! Our room was located at the back of the hotel with a huge bay window providing 180-degree views of the lakes. We had a queensize bed and the most amazing bedding.
The only down sides were the size of our bathroom as it was tiny, but it still provided an over-bath shower and toilet and basin; all immaculate. Drinks prices were fairly expensive too but near enough the same as the pubs in the area.
As for the wedding ceremony, it was the most stunning setting for it. Everyone had a lovely calm day and the ceremony itself was set out the back of the hotel with the aformentioned stunning views. The food was amazing too, with both the wedding breakfast and breakfasts provided cooked to perfection.

This is the perfect wedding venue in the Lake District - especially if you have a small party @30 guests. We had our daughter's wedding here and everything was perfect. The staff were so helpful - nothing was too much trouble and they really joined in the happiness. The catering was great esp the late night fish and chips. The rooms were fantastic.
Room 1 doubled as a great bride room accommodating hair and make up ladies and photographers in the morning and becoming a romantic bridal suite for the evening.
The outdoor wedding was romantic and like something from a fairytale followed by delicious wedding breakfast and then boat trip around Windermere. The private bar was a great hit.
Bride and groom totally happy - what more could you ask?

Room Tip: All rooms are fantastic but old side rooms 1,4 and 5 are magical with lake view rooms

Our 4th stay at Cragwood hotel and still cannot find any faults. All the rooms that we have stayed in are extremely cosy, comfortable and extremely clean.
The food is absolutely first class and gastronomical.Every meal was exceptional and well presented.
The staff are also very professional and friendly, nothing is any trouble.

It truly is a wonderful place to stay and recharge your batteries.

A massive big thank you Cragwood for getting everything right.
Keep up the good work.

We shall be back soon.

Kind regards from lee and Jenny.

Room Tip: Room 1 as fabulous rooms with a romantic four poster bed

Andrew, and breakfast servers were warm and polite. They are approachable, making guests like myself comfortable with our stay. Andrew also took us on a little tour around the premise, which enabled us to quickly familiarise ourselves with the beautiful "labyrinth" of rooms, that we comfortably unwind ourselves in. We enjoyed the spread of food for breakfast, a combination of cereal and freshly cut fruits, with ala carte dishes e.g. haddock and scampi. Also, Lesley has been very attentive with our email requests and queries, prior to our trip. She was very prompt in replying. Although we were not able to get a room, overlooking the lake. The alternative she has gotten us - Rooms 17 and 18, were great as alternatives. When the soles of my shoes came off the male receptionist helped me to find strong sticky tapes, that held my shoes together for more than 1 week. In addition, when we had a flat tyre en route to coniston, and for some reason our UK "3" SIM card was not able to connect the "800" phone numbers, Cragwood staff speedily agreed to help us be our middle man, and we had our car fixed and resumed our journey. Overall, we hope to return (and to have the lake view the next time round), and most of all, we definitely miss the wonderful service and food.

Room Tip: Choose a room that overlooks the lake. Otherwise, choose rooms that of a higher floor, for privacy...

We did enjoy the couple of days we spent at this lovely hotel with our family. It so well deserves Tripadvisor's 5 * ratings. The hotel is set within lovely tranquil grounds, well away from the busy road, with beautiful views of Lake Windermere. The bedrooms are very spacious, well furnished and have the most comfortable beds! The restaurant served excellent food in a most relaxed atmosphere. We booked only for B & B, and it was £35 extra per person for dinner if resident, but we were informed by regular guests that it is much more reasonable to book for half board if you are going to be dining at the hotel in the evenings. All the staff were extremely friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. Fortunately for us the weather was very kind to us, and made our stay with our very lively 3 year old grandson extra special as he could enjoy running around in the gardens which were well maintained. We will most certainly stay at the Cragwood Country House Hotel again, hopefully in the near future.

Room Tip: We had rooms on the ground floor, very peaceful at all times, but would imagine wherever the room it...
