We stayed at the sister Hotel the Merewood about 5 weeks ago and it was fantastic, so we thought we would try the Cragwood. What a fab place, the hotel was beautiful, we had 2 rooms that had just been refurbished, the view not great, but we did,nt mind. The grounds and views over the lake was superb and a lovely walk of a morning with our dog Teddy. The food was yummy!! although the dessert on the snack menu was quite expensive ( £7.25 ) but a good choice , and the staff were very friendly . We have already given the details of the Hotel to our neighbour, and would recommend to our friends without hesitation. Will look forward to returning later in the year. Hilda, Ken and Teddy.

Enjoyed a delightful 24hours in this beautiful hotel. It surpassed all my expectations! Lots of comfortable lounges and amazing gardens. The dining experiences are 1st class with a varied choice on the breakfast menu too. All the staff are friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. I plan to book a surprise visit here for my relatives!

Beautiful setting next to Lake Windermere, gorgeous hotel and cosy bedrooms - to top all that our party of 8 were delighted with the friendly and helpful staff . Choices of lounge areas gives privacy. Thought it could not get any better then we had dinner - wow, superb, so tasty and a varied menu that more than satisfied all of us. This hotel will definitely have further bookings from members of our party. Should be a 5 star hotel in my view ... I have not stayed in better ever.

Room Tip: If you like a terrace, the ground floor rooms are perfect. All our 8 rooms were lovely.

Oh my goodness. From the moment you arrive at this beautiful Manor House you know you are on to something special. We were on holiday from Australia and I had read on tripadvisor it's many great reviews and it did not disappoint. We had a family room, one queen and two single beds in a lake view room. Just stunning. We had a very busy holiday driving all around England visiting family and this was a much needed break away. Our only mistake was booking for just one night. I think two or three nights would be perfect. It is set in 20 acres and is right on Lake Windemere. We have two children aged 7 and 3 and this was the perfect place for Mum and Dad to put their feet up while the boys explored. Lesley and all of the staff could not have been more welcoming. The room was large, had an ensuite and tea and coffee making facilities. The communal lounge had a fireplace and another lounge area where there were board games on offer. Could not fault it and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful break. I am dreaming of coming back one day.

I have now stayed at Cragwood three times with walking group friends, and each time has been as good as the last. I am coeliac, needing a gluten free diet and the Chef(s) hand create amazing alternatives providing me with as much menu choice as other guests and with great sensitivity and attention to detail that is exceptional. The food is excellent and all the staff are professional but really friendly, making each guest feel special. All rooms are beautifully appointed, many with lovely views over the lake. I have booked again for next year, but will also make further visits with different friends. They rightly deserve the best of accolades.

We booked in here after reading the other reviews and we were not disappointed. Although it isn't a 5 star hotel you certainly feel special staying here and it is a fantastic bonus that you can bring your dog here too.We stayed 2 separate nights last week and had rooms in the new wing and in the old part of the house and both were outstanding, very clean with large, comfortable beds and beautiful en-suite bathrooms. There was a handy kettle with tea, coffee and tasty biscuits in both rooms also lovely shower gel, shampoo etc in the bathrooms. There is plenty of car parking space and pretty walks in the grounds down to the lake. Breakfast is delicious with plenty on offer for all tastes. We had dinner our first night and although quite pricey at £35.00 pp it is totally worth it, 5 delicious courses that melt in your mouth! Overall the staff were very friendly and helpful, so much so that we have booked to go back in July.

Had a lovely two night stay at Cragwood, celebrating wife's sixtieth birthday. Turned out to be an excellent choice. Beautiful, large, lake view room immaculately clean in the new part of the building with a lovely bathroom. Staff very friendly. Excellent service from bar and waiting staff. Food very good, changing menu each day freshly cooked. Wine list extensive with a good range of prices. Hotel grounds with direct access to Lake Windermere and to the National Park visitor centre.
