A hotel is a place of stay, but Hillthwaite was very accommodating in every respect. All our requirements we met with a smile and efficiency and nothing was too much. Lovely facilities, we had the pool, steam and sauna to ourselves on every occasion we used them, very clean and comfortable, you must take advantage. Positioned beautifully between the towns of Windermere and Bowness, we walked to both places with ease. Well done to all at Hillthwaite for making our stay a memorable one. It comes very highly recommended.

Room Tip: Just ask the hotel for what you are ideally looking for, we were in Garden 2 room, lovely, quiet and...

Hello, my husband and I have stayed at Hillthwaite House twice this year. Work commitments permitting we would have stayed more.

The service is excellent and we felt very welcome from the moment we arrive to when we left.

The food is excellent. To be honest the first time we stayed we had our doubts and thought the food may not be to a great standard but this was only our assumption as the price included so much! Any doubts were immediately proved wrong at dinner on our first stay.

Our rooms were fabulous on both occasions.

I believe Hillthwaite House exceeds the 3 stars it's awarded. I cannot recommend highly enough!!

Room Tip: We chose the lake view rooms on each occasion and they were both beautiful rooms

we spent two nights at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the comfort and friendliness of this family run hotel. It commanded marvellous views and it was within walking distance of Bowness and Windemere. It would be wonderful in the autumn when the trees turn colour. Will definitely go back soon.

Room Tip: choose the front of the hotel

Thank you for your kind and consise review, yes we do try and make every guest feel part of our family run hotel. There is so much more to a hotel than the furnishings, fixtures and fittings and whilst these are important, creating just the right welcome and atmosphere for new and returning guests is the most essential element of any hoteliers job and any hotelier who forgets this does so at his/her peril. I can confirm that the tree colours are definitely amazing in the autumn so please don't leave it to long before you revisit us again!

Thankyou for your review, from the sounds of it, it seems like we have another very satisfied Travel Zoo customer. These days when guests have so many value for money offers to choose from, we feel very priviledged when they decide to make the Hillthwaite their destination of choice. So thank you for your kind comments which are very much appreciated and for recommending the hotel to other possible guests. We look forward to welcoming you back on some future occasion.

Thanks for writing a review and I am glad to read that you enjoyed your Travel Zoo break. We have had the pleasure of welcoming many Travel Zoo members this year, the vast majority of whom have found that the Hillthwaite more than met their expectations, and the little extras we have offered have really been appreciated by all. Our version of Eggs Benedict is certainly a big favourite with many of our guests and we appreciate very much your kind comments about the staff and food generally, as I have said so many times before, they really are our stars of the show. I am so pleased that you plan to revisit us in the future I am sure we will be maintaining our partnership with Travel Zoo, although we do have other attractive deals available throughout the year. Look forward to welcoming you back to the Hillthwaite.

We stayed here for a weekend recently, our room was on the top floor of the hotel with a great view. The room was spotless and well decorated/furnished as was the rest of the hotel, the room had a TV & DVD player and a few books - more are available in the corridors leading to the rooms. One of the rooms near the lobby has a few board games - chess, dominoes etc as well as a couple of games that might keep young kids entertained. The hotel isn't a large one in terms of numbers of rooms but it has ample tables at breakfast and dinner.

Both breakfast and dinner were excellent - breakfast has the usual cereals, fresh fruit and juices as well as a cooked option, all served promptly by the friendly and attentive staff and the cooked choices we had were very good. Dinner was very nice - 4 courses, choice isn't huge but each dish was cooked very well, there seemed to be a fair number of people who had come here just for their meal and were not staying in the hotel - guess this shows that it has a good rep locally for its food also. It also has a kids menu but apart from my son I didn't see any other kids there.

The hotel has a pool which myself and my son had to ourselves for an hour on the Saturday and again for an hour on Sunday morning. There is also a sauna and a steam room. The car park is small - I reckon there is space for one car per room.

Only negative for me was that the bar in the hotel was shut at midnight even though there were 4 people still there drinking when we went and tried to get a beer.

The staff here are top quality - front desk, breakfast servers, dinner servers, all do an excellent job, and the people in the kitchen clearly know what they are doing too.

I would definitely recommend this place for a weekend break. 5 Stars.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor have a nice view - some have a balcony also

Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive and comprehensive review. Sorry you felt th bar should have been kept open longer, the reason we do this is because of its close proximity to some of the bedrooms, we want to ensure that all our guests get the opportunity of an uninterrupted night's sleep whenever possible. I was delighted to read your comments about the staff and food and these have been passed on and were very much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed our leisure facilities and although you found them empty, they have been much appreciated by the numerous guests who have availed themselves of these facilities during our busy spring and summer season. Just a comment about the carparking, I wonder whether you realised there was additional parking to the rear of the hotel? Anyway, thank you so much once again for excellent description of the hotel and trust we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back on some future occasion.

Firstly the food at the restaurant (well, the breakfast at least) was very very nice, and our room had a lovely view out towards the lake, and was very comfortable.

However, for the £130 we paid, we really didn't get particularly good value for money. Our shower (which was part of a very clean, modern bathroom, to be fair) was unbelievably weak, to the point that it was almost unusable. When we mentioned this to the staff on reception they pretty much just said "Oh yes, sorry about that. We've been having some issues..."

So they've been having issues but haven't fixed them...? And still chose to charge £130? Not good value.

There definitely wasn't £70's difference between our Superior Double and the single my mother-in-law had.

Unfortunately, we felt a bit ripped off.

Apologies for the delay in responding to your review, sorry you felt our superior double wasnt value for money, let me assure you that no one at the Hillthwaite wants to 'rip' anybody off. The problem with shower has been eradicated, sorry if this was the main reason you felt 'ripped off',' but in all other aspects the room in our opinion does satisfy the criteria to be sold as superior double, we obviously respect your views and thank you for your kind remarks about the food and views, it is a great pity that the technical problem with the shower seems to have spoiled your otherwise positive view of the hotel, confirmed by 4/5 on three of the standards used by Trip Advisor. However, maybe on some future occasion you will give us the opportunity to put right what went with your stay.
